It seems that in recent times that some of todays of youth is embracing this sort of "thug" type of persona. In essence, its some sort of lifestyle..and a status among peers that youre hip & cool.

before i go any further, i want to make myself perfectly clear..this is not a rant about racial prejudice or the like. I am not singling out any specific racial background or nationality. but instead I am targeting a lifestyle, a way of mannerisms that many of todays youth are embracing by epidemic proportions that appears to be key at the deterioration of common values amongst youth.

If you compare a teenager in the 1950's with some of the teenagers today..youll see exactly what I mean. The teen from 1950's would have better manners,..would say such pleasantries as "please", "thank you",."youre welcome", etc. whereas the decadent teen from today would never be likely to voice such phrases.

Black, White, Asian, Hispanic..its all the same, and its not limited to any race. You know the mannerisms I am talking about..speaking ebonics,.wearing jeans that ride on their hips that display their boxer briefs, walking around with a comb still stuck in their hair,.chewing on a straw from McDonalds,.using excessive expletives,.denouncing all authorities, such as law enforcement, etc. They have a total lack of respect for elders, those in authoritive positions, strangers, and just about anyone else that doesnt mirror their personalities.

whenever these types of people walk together in large groups, it creates for a bad public image. it ruins thriving businesses. Its the reason that many convenience stores have large signs posted outside indicating "NO LOITERING". If you see them together in a large group,.say at a shopping mall,.a public park, etc,.it immediately destroys any chance at having a pleasant or serene moment to yourself. They are loud, disruptive, and outright disrepectful to anyone who is simply wanting to enjoy whatever it was they were doing before the crowd arrived on the scene.

someone who acts like this..you wouldnt be able to hold a conversation with them on a normal intellectual plain without them becoming mentally frustrated, confused, and angered and then having them respond with a brash remark like:.."wut choo mean i dunt unduhstand how to do dis,.dis is wut i do an' i kno how to do dis,.so you need to back da fuck off..bee-yotch"

they are also likely to say choice phrases such as: "Yeauuhh nigguh" "where my peepz at?" "ayye,.you gots a blunt fo me?"

Its really sad that todays youth have succumbed to this lowered intellectual level. All the diligent efforts put forth by teachers in various schools to educate our youth is completely washed down the drain. It is overpowered by the impact that television, the internet, and music has over our youth.

And the old people would complain about the group of greaser 'thugs' that was destroying the moral fiber of the time and how when they were young in the 20's and 30's everyone knew respect.

Respect goes both ways.

Back around the 1950's in many poor slum areas the parents use to work against their children with rude behaviour such as violence, sarcasm, swearing and low expectations on a daily basis as I read and they grew up to move away from authority but most of them carry on the problems they experienced onto their own children without realizing because it is normal to them. Irrational behaviour from people who swear and throw things as a normal part of their behaviour reminds me of it relating back in history as the politically incorrect term "working class behaviour." You can be any class you want but I am talking about the behaviour.

Just my view of things.

I had the same thought as Chefelf on this one. When I go to the mall, I don't see it overgrown with thugs, but I'm sure some do. And were I to go back in time, I doubt I'd see the streets filled with leather-jacketed juvenile delinquents, but that's what a lot of folks thought they saw at the time. Comic books were even censored as possible cause of this scandalous behaviour!
"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

I went to McDonalds a few months back, and the thugs in this regard were those illegal aliens. Certainly there's a term that's more embracing but I'm not using it. They were huddled together, all twelve of them that emptied from their van, and one guy was ordering for them. Then they'd look at me and snicker in their own toungue. Ok, they probably weren't insulting me but I didn't know and I didn't care. I left to go somewhere else. ANY where else. Thuggery, I don't know. But it's always a scene I'm quick to avoid.

The 1950s example is a parallel, sure. Grown-ups will always gripe about the youth. Count me in as one who believes the good old days are fading fast.

most of the kids where I grew up had 'thuggish' leanings and as far as I can tell there's a certain amount of unwillingness to understand, a jock-like aversion to so called 'normal intellectual' conversation, but calling it mental frustration and confusion is down right racist, or even classist (refering to these youths' championing of lower-class roots). to them an itelectual conversation isn't valuable, it's just being a smart ass. like jocks they're more interested in their social standing. but there's no lack of ability to comprehend.

and as far as I've seen, given the right circumstances ie an authority figure they actually respect, these 'thugs' become more polite than anyone else I've seen, even using somewhat antiquated terms such as 'ma'am' and 'sir'.

I agree with your argument that today's youths lack any sembalence of manners, but you can't limit that to 'thugs' without racially charging it because generally no youths of any background or any lifestyle at the moment have any manners or respect for authority without it being forced out of them. at the moment it's just un-cool.

..and thats exactly where I am coming from. because its observed that kids of just about every nationality and race can and do embrace this sub-culture, it stands as proof that im not being racially prejudice.

these quotes:......

wut choo mean i dunt unduhstand how to do dis,.dis is wut i do an' i kno how to do dis,.so you need to back da fuck off..bee-yotch"

"Yeauuhh nigguh" "where my peepz at?" "ayye,.you gots a blunt fo me?"

....that i mentioned earlier (either verbatim or with slight modifications or relations) ive heard just about every race of kid say at one time or another:black, white, asian, hispanic.etc.., not just black, as you were trying to imply that i was holding a prejudice towards.

it sounded like you were saying that the thug lifestyle is the primary factor or sign of the degradation of the morals and manners of today's youth. and there's pretty much no denying that the thug lifestyle youre talking about primarily originated with black youth, so you see where I start sqawking racism...

but I think the real problem is that kids have always resisted authority, been disrespectful of elders and been generally crass and rude, if not on the surface than at least in private. but that at the moment, after literally hundreds of years, society's power and focus has shifted from full on grown up adults to youths of all ages. practically everyone and their sister is trying to cater to youth these days.

you can probably thank punks and hippies for that, or possibly their parents for prohibiting them enough that they felt the need for such a serious backlash. or possibly entreperners for thinking there was money to be had selling stuff to this new vocal market. but ever since kids got a voice and were no longer 'seen and not heard' I think things have gotten way out of control. I mean ask yourself, is today's mainstream society a one that favors maturity, responsibility etc, or is it one that has rules similar to no homework! and let's eat candy anytime we want and stay up forever! kind of stuff...

Kids have always though they knew everything and ran the show, but for some reason society is suddenly letting them.

lemme just say for the record though, that I'm pretty much the youth were talking about here. at the tender age of 20 going on 21 I can say that I have just as little manners and respect for authority as the rest of my peers.

and while I'm pretty comfortable with being basically waited on hand and foot by the rest of society, I still find it pretty absurd and dangerous with regards to whatever's left of our 'moral fiber'.

I'm 16, and even I find today's youth utterly ludicrous. Stupid chains, NYY caps, and those damn low-rise jeans make me feel ashamed that I'm their age. blushing.gif

Everytime I am seen by thugs who know me:

They shout out my name in a dark horrible moany voice constantly. It sounds almost like supporters shouting at the performers in a football match. When I am on the bus they do the same outside and bang on the windows as well as disgusting deeds such as putting their lips on the glass whilst pulling faces. After the bus driver shouts at them to stop banging they start to swear, make threats at the driver and throw things. That is what I call modernized "working class behaviour" except they learn't it quickly from the parents to use at a much younger age before they grow up. So I think the next step for when they grow up would probably be a jail cell for them.

Is that for me?

If so you do because you asked.

Anyway it shows they care. Not meaning to be rude but I was just describing according to the topic.

If I am not living near them to affect me, I don't care. Sadly I have to care to stay away from them as much as possible. These people are racist too otherwise they would have left me alone long ago if I had white skin and not coloured skin.

Joke: I like the education they receive from the schools and parents, "all coloured or black people are from Pakistani and must be opposed." I even corrected the polite ones. I don't feel insulted because the person who taught me to become insulted was as confused as they were.
