I once tried running Lineage 2 (yeah, I know, back then I was actually interested in playing MMOs), and they had a clever program called GameGuard on it, which basically prevented you from logging into the game unless you deleted your firewall(!). Because the program, which is meant to filter out hackers from the game, can't initialize itself, those rice-scoffing Korean game designer-wannabes decided to throw out the baby along with the dirty bathwater, and not let me play the game because they cocked up. The hackers are the only ones who can work around GameGuard by making the program believe that it is running while in actuality it doesn't, and again, the one who gets anal-raped by stupid protection systems is the legitimate player. Gah.

I have an Xbox game, James Bond Agent Under Fire I think, that actually says "Do not LEND or make illegal copies of this game" Hey, Michrosoft: Fuck you.

Fable has the same message on it. In all fairness though, if you ever read the EULA's, you don't have the right to lend the game. It's one of the conditions of buying it. Same goes for books and movies, or any other intellectual property that you buy. Librarys and video stores actually have to pay extra royalties for the right to lend the books/films out.

I thought this was crazy anti-piracy protection, until I heard about when people try to sneak into the Halo 3 Beta, and then get a 9,999 year ban.

I love the way Microsoft didn't just ban them 'for life'. Nooo, they had to ban them UNTIL THE YEAR 9999!!!!!!!

Kinda over-dramatic, don't ya think?

A friend of mine can't get his drivers license back for 90 odd years.

We're not sure, but we think when he finishes paying off his fines he may get it back. As it is, you can only drink drive/speed so many times before they just stop giving it back.
