So now, the Y's spreading popularity has reached Penny Arcade, from whencewith he was mentioned AND linked.
Expect his site to crash any minute now.

While I generally dislike PA's "let's write pretentious adjective-filled essays on games the same way I wrote my advanced placement English essays in high school" policy, the advancement of www.fullyramblomatic.com can only be seen as a good thing, especially since they didn't subject Yahtzee to a full pseudo-psychoanalytical examination. So, I'm content to say "good on them" just this once.

My general contempt for their smarmy, holier-than-thou attitude resumes tomorrow.

Great work Yahtzee.
By the way, I really appreciate that highly subtle MGS2 reference you made in your vid.

Er... what reference?
As I walked through the valley of the shadow of death, I realised that it could do with a lick of paint.

Er... what reference?

Er... the whole "FISSION MUCKING ACCOMPLISHED" message in the twing-twang part?

(I was expecting to have to point it out to someone since it's so easy to miss... but you?)

I don't think that the only place where you can come across the expression "Mission accomplished" would be Metal Gear Solid 2.

Or am I missing something here?

Maybe somebody actually says "FISSION MUCKING ACCOMPLISHED" or what the hell ever in MGS2, but since Yahtzee appears to be as confused as the rest of us I'll just say that it looks like he never intended a reference here, and you can't "point out" a reference that doesn't exist.

Yeah, you can. And you get to feel really smug at noticing something so subtle that the creator didn't even intend it. Of course, you also get to be mocked for reading too much into things.

For those who haven't played the even more ridiculous sequel to the original outing of Tactical Espionage Action, this is what is being referred to. Or rather, wasn't referred to. Spoonerisms aren't the exclusive copyright of Hideo Kojima.

There are better spoonerisms.

I just think the comparison was way to close to have not been a reference. Not only is the first world the same, but the two letters being swapped around are aswell.
Either Yahtzee did make it, or its an extremely uncanny coincidence of a similarity to a specific video game in a video game review, or else Yahtzee just came across the term second hand in a forum or someplace, which, if Yahtzee genuinely didn't mean it as a MGS2 thing, is probably the most likely explanation.
Either way, I'm sure people who haven't had the pleasure of reading this thread are giggling over it.

Metal Gear Solid 2 doesn't seem like a piece of crap game I can see Yahtzee playing through to that point, judging from his "FUCK THIS SHIT" during the Darkness review.

But yes, regardless of where he got the idea, it is funny.

Punts are not for kissing.

Or indeed, many phrases including words that end in -unt/s. Or -uxom.
