A lot of people like the Beatles, and why not, album for album they have sold more albums than most bands could ever dream of.

For the most part, I like the Beatles music,.its catchy, it invokes emotion, etc.

I do also believe that the Beatles popularity in the U.S. did in fact come as a matter of being in the right place at the right time. It was only months after JFK was brutally killed in Dallas that the Beatles had made their first nationally televised appearance, and caused "beatlemania".

so, in some aspects, you could say that the Beatles are overrated. its all a matter of opinion.

some of their songs are just flat out weird and eery.

I remember the first time ever I heard "Strawberry Fields Forever",.I listened to the song and thought.."wow, this is a nice song,.very lulling,.nice beat to it"...before long the song was soon over

..but wait,..it wasnt over!!...it just so happened there was a short period of silence, before the song came back to live wailing loud trumpets and some weird, eery noises that sounded off the wall that sounds a lot like what a fucked-up jack-in-the-box on crack would sound like....and these noises scared the flooded crap out of me,...it was totally unexpected!

so why would the Beatles add this weird ending to their song...the song itself, minus the weird ending would have sold on its own merits.

in fact,.i hate to dis-credit the world reknown Beatles on this song, but IMHO, Ive always like the Candy Flip version of the song much better.

see for yourself...

Peter Brady was by far the ugliest Brady kid on the "Brady Bunch". I mean, they were all pretty ugly, and the fact that the Brady dad wanted to always take the boys out on overnight camping trips just a tad bit too often, gave me the creeps.

Okay, that video is a fucking atrocity, and all parties involved in its creation should be immediately hunted down, shot, hung, drawn, quartered, shot again, and then fed to dogs.
By claiming that that is better than the Beatles' original, you've pretty much immediately discredited your entire post.

I know it's cliche to like the Beatles but I've been HUGE Beatles fan since I was old enough to know what music was.

The ending to 'Strawberry Fields' is great. It used to scare the crap out of me when I was little. It's actually kind of creepy.

Part of the reason the Beatles later songs are often covered poorly is because people always leave out the great studio effects they did, marking them as superfluous. The ending to 'Strawberry Fields', while bizarre, was extremely experimental at the time.

As for this version you linked to . . . I listened to it twice and I think I hate it. Here are a few reasons why:
  • The crappy 90's techno beat.
  • The horrible synth patches ranging from the horrible tinny fake piano sound, the fake flutes and the terrible fake string patch.
  • The terrible plate reverb on the vocals.
  • The video, as Hecc pointed out, is rather terirble.

But, you know, if you like it . . . more power to you. smile.gif

I like how you put it as though I very nicely pointed out that it's not a very nice video, Chefelf. You make me seem so...not irate and belligerent.

Oh, that's right click on the video.

Waste of time. Glad it didn't spoil my morning.

I did hear a couple of beatleg podcasts. Get it? they're Beatles Bootlegs. It's like the name "beatle_s" but with a "g" in there. It's the kind of name that sounds clever at first, then less so each time that you hear it.

I'm very bored.

It was a relevant comment. "I'm very bored" is what John was purported to say at the end of SFF. Hoax believers thought he said "I buried Paul", and others believe it was "Cranberry Sauce".

Bond, if you Do get bored, you might enjoy reading up on the "Paul is Dead" theory (of which, the above is one of many coincidental clues). There's a whole lot more places to gather info other than the Wiki.

It's a reference to when theorists believe the "real" Paul McCartney died. wink.gif

Ok, fine. You know I actually suspected that at the time but forgot about it, thanks for pointing it out. I thought it could have been their last Candlestick show, or possibly the Phillipines incident?

Do you have anything else you'd like to say about the Beatles? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I love their music. "All You Need Is Love", though naive as hell, is a great tune. And, heck, who doesn't love "With A Little Help From My Friends"? I've always had a place in my heart for "Eleanor Rigby", too. blush.gif

Revolver, Rubber Soul and Abbey Road for the most part. The early stuff is so plain by comparison, but it's a blast to sing along. I play percussion and sing, and my good friend the guitar playing vocalist and I love to play it all whenever we get together.

I have all of their records from Rubber Soul and on on vinyl. I had to sell my vinyl collection about a year ago, but refused to part with my Beatles collection. biggrin.gif
