Especially considering I probably could've gotten a good bit of cash for them. They're all in excellent condition. My copy of "Revolver" looks like it was just unwrapped yesterday.
Actually, my "Magical Mystery Tour" and "Sgt. Pepper's" sleeves are in pretty rough shape, now that I look at them.

Revolver, Rubber Soul and Abbey Road for the most part. The early stuff is so plain by comparison, but it's a blast to sing along. I play percussion and sing, and my good friend the guitar playing vocalist and I love to play it all whenever we get together.

So hard to pick a favorite, though if I had to it may be 'Abbey Road'. It's like there's a different favorite album depending on what mood you're in.

I certainly agree with Despondent that the early stuff is a little too plain. I generally don't listen to the early stuff. If I'm in the mood for a Beatles album I start considering Rubber Soul and everything else after (except maybe the Yellow Submarine soundtrack ).

I have the music books for all the beatles songs (the giant two volume set) and they're disastrously falling apart due to over use.

BTW: Thanks for the heads up on the two podcasts . . . I've been listening all morning!

I'm jealous. We've several books between us, and only get to play 3-7 times a year. There are lots of chord sites out there, thankfully. If you set up in the tech room (or have a laptop) you can play from the screen to ensure the key is correct before you print. We didn't have much time, so we just played from the screen.

Now, the Beatles were awesome, but I feel the Clash are right behind them in terms of quality.

I'm a huge fan of Crowded House. NZ band with Beatlesque tendencies. George Harrison admired them also. I never got into the black jeans rock stylings, did spin some Clash in the 80's. CH's Neil Finn has playing relationships with Johnny Marr of the Smiths I believe.

What drew you towards the Beatles, Bond? My sister bought the "red" album when we were just kids, played it all the time (it was a fresh release). Naturally I couldn't like anything my 2+ years older sis did. But I eventually opened my ears and eyes.

I've been listening to a lot of the Beatlegs podcast. I find it very interesting but I find it very frustrating that there's basically no narration so you're listening to most of this stuff completely out of context.

But there doesn't seem to be any information there either. I'd love to have a list of the songs and what they were. I think it would have been great if there was a host who could introduce some tracks and say what they were. Some of them are easy to figure out (alternate or live versions, etc.) but some of them are nearly impossible to figure out.

I'm thinking of that weird song at the end of Episode #37 (Chaotic Creation) where it seems to be Lennon yelling a bunch of obsenities. Also there's a weird rapping big on Episode #40 (Beatles will be Beatles) which starts at around the 16:50 mark. It appears to be each Beatle doing a rap but it's most likely some impressionists.

Their animated film, Yellow Submarine. I'd heard of their fame, but wanted to see their film first. I was younger then, I suppose.

The Beatles had very little to do with that film. They only appear in the songs and in a live-action epilogue. The band themselves didn't write the film and impersonators provided the voices. It was essentially a cheap and easy way to complete their film contract. If you wanted to see a Beatles film, you should have seen HELP! or A HARD DAY'S NIGHT (or if you dislike narrative, MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR).

civ, you left out Let It Be. To me the definitive Beatles movie. A Hard Days Night is close though. I happen to like the MMT album more than Sgt. Pepper. Sgt. Pepper wouldn't even make my top 5 Beatles LP's. Not that i hate it.

XTC is a great band with uber-pop sensibilities and an experimental streak. Great albums across the board. They also retired from the road to concentrate on crafting their songs.
