when conversing with random people, it always strikes me at odds to hear some of the words they use when they talk. especially, when admist the course of the conversation they choose to utlize a rather unique and rare word,..as if to sound intellectual or cool.

the other day i heard someone say a rather unique and interesting word:..."UBER"

uber,..uber...rhymes with goober.

but, aside from just that person saying the word, i have read online and in magazines, etc, where the word uber seems to be picking up on popularity in recent times.

so what exactly does "uber" really mean?..lets find out...

During the 2000s, über also became a synonym for super; e.g. überleet = supercool, generally with a slightly intensified meaning. Über is commonly written as uber[citation needed] in English, though with slightly different meaning.

so, the word uber means supercool...are people afriad to say super-cool instead?

how about superb?,.awesome?..great? ...no,.they want to use some far-off word like uber, so they can seem like they are in the constant know of things.

this is like the dilemma of why people eat frog legs. i have never ate frog legs, but those who have tell me that they taste like chicken. well,.why not just eat chicken then? why go the extra mile, and possibly even pay more for something that is just the same as the original?

why, go to great extent to use a word like "uber", when there are plenty of other words already in existence that mean that same damn thing..why?

People actually say 'uber'? Wow. Uber is such a dumb sounding word, like "owned", "pizazz", or " apricot".

For Uber I never heard of that word before. I know the term "Owned" being used in some games.

The last time "uber" was in wide usage, the people using it were of Germanic descent.

Yeah. Uber is a geek subculture loan word from Germany. über is German for up/over/above/super, etc. So for someone to be uber is to be above something/someone. You can see the original German in Nietzsche's writings in his jargon übermensch, meaning over or above man. And without getting into the will to power or anything, that's it in a nutshell. The U with umlaut should be capitalized when refering to the Overman, but I can't remember the keystrokes to create a capital version right now.

The lingo has nothing to do with feeling "in the know" any more than any other silly subculture language does. I maintain that, or I'm not a hip cat, daddio.

Really, this didn't need its own thread, but maybe it'll catch on. And be glad none of you are getting 0wn3d or h4x0r3d or boned or janked or capped, etc.
