Maybe you could write the next great Australian novel, Young Trilby? Oh, wait... tongue.gif

Yeah...if there's one thing lamer than novelisations, it's prequel novels. Or the new Doctor Who.

Well, apart from the terrible writing, casting Billie Piper in anything, lame attempts at humour, rubbish endings, the lame "we won't explain whatever tis is till the last episode" thing in every series and all, you mean?

Well, how about taking classic Dr Who monsters like Daleks and stuffing them up as much as humanly possible?

"For the new series, all Daleks should have the IQ of a recently deceased lavatory attendant. And they should be impressed by humans, and not want to kill them..yeah, they should be emos as well. And they should wait patiently for the Dr to do whatever awful plan we devise for him before deciding to stop him."

Though, they did get rid of Rose et al (though they haven't stopped going on about it), and Russell T Davies is going to leave the series at some point, so they might get a writer who didn't suffer severe brain damage as an infant at some point.

Oh...Kylie Minogue is going to be a guest star, and they are counting that rubbish movie as official...the guy from it might be making an appearance.

QUOTE (leperking @ Aug 7 2007, 01:56 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I hate the story BECAUSE I hate fan-fiction. The story has already been told, albeit in an entirely different medium. There's no reason to restate it if you're not the original creator of the characters you're writing about.

The quality of the writing is a moot point for me. Go on writing however you please, but fan-fiction is balls. I repeat: write something original. It's far more rewarding to everyone involved.

And as a side note, you honestly shouldn't be posting fan fiction on an internet message board if you can't handle people tearing it apart.
Fan-fiction isn't usually a clean-cut adaptation to another medium - it's using another person's characters and settings to tell a different story. Usually sexual, but hey whatever. This is more like, er... fan-translation.

Your original point about originality still stands but only for those who wish to write and have no ideas of their own; the point of fan-fiction and other fan-created works is that it is by fans, because they want to see more of the original author's vision, especially if that author has discontinued work on it. 'Writing something original' is irrelevant because the authors don't WANT to write something original, they want to see more of existing stuff they like.

Bravo. Couldn't have put it better myself.
I'm not pessimistic; I've just realised that the light at the end of the tunnel is an incoming train.

Protip: It's usually a good idea to read someone's entire post before coming up with a reply.

I've plainly stated my views, and am not saying anything else on this subject. Just go somewhere else, please.

I'll get back on it as soon as I can find councelling for Morrowind addiction.

Bond, if someone mentions something in a post that you don't understand, it's generally quicker to Google it or search Wikipedia or whatever than it is to ask and risk being mocked or ignored. If you still don't understand and think it's probably not that important, send the original poster a private message to satisfy your curiosity rather than post-whoring. And that smiley is redundant as well as annoying, seeing as how the question mark makes it rather clear you're asking a question.

(And Morrowind is a computer game)
Use [rifle] on [clocktower].
