I agree with a lot of those suggestions. Still, I don't know why you're so determined to bring in elements of "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". Why you like that movie (and that book) is a huge mystery to me -> please don't bother to explain though. I'm not really interested.

Having the cinema Bond get married was one of the dumbest decisions in the series. Thankfully, the whole thing was largely dropped - although it sounds like they brought it back again for "For Your Eyes Only".

Actually, why on earth are you into the Bond books? They're well before your time, largely out-dated, full of misogynist and racist stuff that is just plain WRONG and on top of all that, they're generally mind-numbingly dull.

Also, on the edits, you're frequently talking about an ideal situation where you'd get to compile the movie as a director would. However, I've actually made real edits where I have to consider the music cues and the fade-ins etc and have done a very good job of it (as I did with 'Return of the Jedi' - best possible job with what I had to work with).

Heartily agree on leaving out the volcano lair until Bond actually enters it. Confused as to why you'd include any of the Helga Brandt scene where she captures Bond (if you were going to improve the film with some changes, that is). My own edit cuts from Bond walking away after his fight with the guys at the docks (just before a stray goon jumps him) and goes straight into the scene where Bond is talking to Tanaka and Aki (removing the line about chasing girls being the end of him).

Apparently, the first Bond director, Terence Young, was hoping to direct it after Goldfinger, but when they switched it for Thunderball, he was largely disappointed. So, too, for Peter Hunt, who had gotten an agreement with the producers that he could direct OHMSS before Lewis Gilbert was offered one, so they switched it and YOLT around.

For the same reason the producers were: It provides good fodder for the films. wink.gif

I did consider the music on one edit: the cut from the Japanese montage of signs to Aki's car pulling into Henderson's driveway; the musical swell there is very similar, so it wouldn't be too hard to marry the scenes together.

I find it does no good to simply drop a character after you've reframed her. Also, I like Connery's looks in the scene; he's obviously bored, but the odious looks he shoots make me think this man is in no mood for snuggling after a personal tragedy. dry.gif

Again with the insisting on him dealing with the personal tragedy... only in your edit. Also, the scene where Brandt captures Bond and lets him go is silly.

Anyway, I'm not discussing this anymore and I don't think you should either. Your obsession with all things Bond is seriously bordering on a psychological illness - no offence.

I still need to see Casino. I saw the original one, which was kind of stupid. Problem with most bond films is that they're riddled with stupid camp.

Directors think this is what die hards go for, camp. Just like in the batman films of the 90s. It would be like this seceret joke amongst fan boys, and casual humor among others.

I hate it. If I want camp I'll watch a film that pulls it off well, Starship Troopers. That movie was not suppose to be taken seriously, and it worked. Shit acting, stupid bugs killing people in a comical yet gorey fashion, those tv special reports etc...

Bond's saving grace is that the films are not connected in any way. You can write off a shit film or a shit decade and still enjoy the latest flick.

You'd like Casino Royale, then; it contains no camp whatsoever, no silly gadgets or anything; just cold, hard spying. cool.gif

Well, Bond 22 is supposed to be the direct sequel to CR, so you'd better see it before the next one comes out. wink.gif

Hey, I'm just curious: Has anyone tried to watch the films in the order of the books? You know; Casino Royale, Live and Let Die, Moonraker, Diamonds Are Forever, etc.

I'm intrigued as to how it'd work out... wink.gif
