I mean, honestly, Greyback eating everyone in Gryffindor Tower? Goodness, I respect down endings, but that's just ridiculous... rolleyes.gif

The only reason I say that is because Rowling portrays Griffindor as the best house, and Slytherin as downright dispicable. Surely some students in Slytherin are more than just bullies.

How was James Potter in Griffindor after all the pranks he pulled? That doesn't demonstrate courage.

How was Draco Malfoy in Slytherin when he turned out all right after all?

Simple: They sort too soon, and by the wrong qualities. Sirius Black, I am guessing, only got into Gryffindor because he chanted "not Slytherin, not Slytherin", just like his godson would do all those years later... sad.gif

I loved the book, with the possible exception of the children's names in the epilogue. The one thing that really bothered me was that I couldn't understand the logic of why Harry didn't have to die again to destroy Voldemort, what with the whole them being horcruxes of eachother or something. It seemed to me that he had just made his problem worse and now he'd have to double die. Did anyone understand that part?

By using Harry's blood in his regeneration, Voldemort tied Harry to life as long as he lived. When Voldie AK'd Harry, the Horcrux protected Harry from the full blast and subsequently died. After Harry squared off with him, Voldie was defenseless from the Killing Curse; thus, the Elder Wand refused to betray its' master and Voldemort fell for the final time. A great ending, in my humble opinion. happy.gif

Another thing bothering me-

How did Voldys AK curse destroy the Horcrux in Harry? I thought only certain things could do it (that curse not being one)

As long as Voldemort was alive, so was Harry. Maybe you should go back and re-read King's Cross; it gives a lot of helpful information... wink.gif

That's a good point. Technically only the Griffindor Sword or the Basilisk's Venom should be able to destroy the Horcrux.

no, there are a few ways to destroy them, like the fiendfire that was set off at the end - I think it was just that the sword and the venom were the most convenient and safe things for them to use.

Indeed. Also, did anyone else find Xenophilius Lovegood excruciatingly annoying? angry.gif

The Diadem was destroyed in such a stupid manner. You would think that Voldemort would choose something which couldn't be destroyed by such a basic spell. For the love of God, a spell conjured by Vincent Crabbe, a complete dolt, destroyed the horcrux!

Other notes...

1. Horcrux is a stupid word. Definitely doesn't come off the tongue smoothly.

2. Perhaps Greyback killing all of the Griffindor students is a bit excessive, but he could have at least nawed one student's head off and carried it around in his mouth, while periodically stopping to tear some of the flesh off the face. Rowling never gave the poor guy enough credit.

3. Harry uses 2 of the 3 unforgivable curses in the book. I didn't think "good" wizards were permitted to use them.

And that's what's so ironic. Also, Fiendfyre is very complicated Dark magic, and I doubt Voldemort thought a mere student could learn how to do it... wink.gif

Well, it's been confirmed that he did try to attack Lavender Brown, so that's a thumbs-up from me. biggrin.gif

So? It's almost like Luke and the Force choke from ROTJ. rolleyes.gif

I think it would have made for a more interesting read if Harry began turning into a dark wizard. He showed signs of it throughout the series. But....that would have shown signs of copying Star Wars just a tad too much.

Well, there were signs of it in CoS and OotP, but the former was just Voldie's Horcrux acting up and the latter was just a bout of possession. wink.gif

but if the AK curse could also destroy a Horcrux, Dumbledore should have told Harry to learn that, instead of pissing about in a tent looking for a sword that could've just been pulled out of the sorting hat anyway.

oh vey...
