Yeah, that whole 19 years later thing made me want to rip my eyes out.

Albus Severus Potter? Are you kidding me? And what was Draco's kid's name...Scorpius?!?

Well, Rowling did write the Epilogue at about the same period as PS, so... sad.gif

I would like to declare my disappointment with the ending.

My friends and I agreed that it would have been a better ending if Harry had gone insane like Mad-Eye.

If the book ended when Harry was "killed" the first time, I would have been happy. But everything that occurs afterwards is absolute crap.

No, we would have wanted NEVILLE to then kill Voldemort.

I agree. Neville then could have been the one to kill Voldemort. Both Harry and Neville were born on the same day, so the prophecy could have applied to either of them. I was expecting a twist like that in the end.

Alternately, I would also accept her current ending, except with a small addition. After Voldemort's Avada Kedavra backfires on him, he gets knocked over...but is not dead. While everyone is celebrating that Harry has won, Voldemort gets up, grabs an axe, and chops Harry's head off (Similar to the fashion of how that one guy loses his head in the movie 300).

BRILLIANT!

That way we don't end up with names like "Albus Severus Potter"

NOTE: I just finished the book this afternoon (my first day off since the release!) and split the topic so this topic can continue on as the discussion that happened after the book was released.

No need for the spoiler tag anymore as there seems to be adequate warnings on the thread. smile.gif

As with Half-Blood Prince I thought the pensieve sequences were the best. I thought the first 300 pages or so were a little slow but the final 450 were super-exciting.

Yeah, the epilogue was a little nauseating, but I think that's pretty standard. It would have been hard to make any "xxx years later" epilogue that was not somewhat cringe-worthy.

All in all I really enjoyed it as much as the previous six books. Always hard to finalize a decade long story and please everyone but I'm glad that Harry didn't die even if it would have made more sense. smile.gif

I rather liked the "King's Cross" chapter, as it provided a return (sort of) for Dumbledore.

I was, however, rather disgusted by the fate of Bathilda Bagshot. What an awful way to go... sick.gif

Despite having predicted that this book would suck donkey dick, I rather liked it. I don't think anything was totally unprecedented, even if Rowling failed to come through and explain that weird disembodied voice-mail to Aunt Petunia from two books back. This may sound to you folks like the reaction a lot had to the third STAR WARS prequel, but essentially I hated the last two, and thought this one had lots of drama and was a good ending to the series. I know a lot of you will hate the denoument, but I liked it a lot. The last sentence is brilliant. Of course, it could easily have ended on the last sentence before as well, but then everyone would want to know what happened next. I actually liked the romance in this one, since it was played at a decent level; Ginny's line "there's the silver lining I was looking for" was still in my head several chapters later.

Of course, I'm in Ireland right now and have been drunk for most of the time spent reading, so who knows what I'll feel in the long run. For now though I think I can happily put this series to bed.
"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

(Spoilers in this video)

This is freakin' classic. These guys drive around shouting spoilers at Harry Potter cosplayers who are waiting for the book. At the very end a fat kid in a robe tries to chase after their van. Hilarious.

That was Dumbledore. He sent it to Petunia to make her remember the promise she made when she took Harry in. Goodness, were you drunk when you read OotP? ohmy.gif
