Cyzyk, my girlfriend is more goth, and that's how I want her, so I doubt I'd feel stupid. Frankly, I'm kinda tired of the black t-shirt, and beige trousers, which is basically what I call the "Rocker in the 2000s" look...

And Dan_N_GameZ, I'm not too sure about this, but is goth related to emo in any way? I'm not too familiar with either, and they seem vaguely similar to me. I'm hoping you can clear up any confusion or misconceptions I have.

As far as I can tell, goths wear more unusually shaped clothing, occasionally with too much lace and often with too much jewelry, and sharpen their nails into points. Emos just wear black, cut their hair funny, and adhere to specific styles of dress.

If you want a quick test, poke one and see if it scratches/bites/hisses at you. If it does, you're dealing with a goth.

Do they deal in similar tastes in music? For example, I'm not sure if Evanesence is emo or goth, or perhaps both? It's all so confusing...

Well, actually, she's not that goth, but she has white skin and wears lots of black... And Evanescence is Emo now, from what I can tell, although she/it/they (?) was/were goth...

Goths are converted poor and lower middle class kids. Emos are converted rich and upper middle class kids.

There are also massive differences to what they wear and what kind of music they listen to.

I've actually heard that the old, real goth subculture was pretty cool. (Not the sad posers who buy their clothes from Hot Topic.)

You know, whenever I was around guys who considered themselves of the "subculture", all they would talk about was Hot Topic and Dreamtheater and Invader Zim and yadda yadda yadda... damn it, it got really tiring for me to listen to.
