Of course he isn't. So why do some dripping fan boys treat him like one? Lucas has contradicted himself often and dropped the ball on the sequels. I'd think any reasonable person, while still enjoying the movies and particularly the OT ones, would agree with that Lucas has made mistakes, contradicts himself frequently and whose gas-giant size ego has lead him astray.

So why are some of his followers (hello force.net) so fanatical? Even when confronted with stark contradictions in Lucas interviews choose to believe the implausible, and insist "he planned it that way all along" or "The PT movies are masterpieces".

These people seem as irrational as as people who blow themselves up in crowded marketplaces. Has Lucas, by accident rather than design, created his own cult or boys that never grew into men? Why do some of us grow up, and others not?

Is this a cult? Is it some bizzare social phenomena? Has George Lucas replaced God in the mind of some impressionable children cum man-children? (* The male brain doesn't mature until age 25. Source: Scientific American).

By growing up, do you mean "virulently hating the new films"? Goodness, I grew up with these films! They're my generation's version of Star Wars, and they're ours to cherish! How would you like it if someone put down the originals? angry.gif

EDIT: Sorry, didn't mean to get all worked up back there. blushing.gif

Comparing Lucas worshippers to suicide bombers is a very poor analogy, as well as in very poor taste, I might add.

They're annoying yes, but let's leave it at that.

I'd argue that "Star Wars" is for all generations, not just the people who grew up with it in the 70's and 80's.

The Prequels were a big nostalgia cash-in to advertise Lucas' FX companies. That doesn't mean you can't enjoy them as movies, but let's get real here, they're just nowhere near as good as the originals.

Now if you're comparing the CG in them, the CG of the prequels blows away the crappy CG added in the special editions by millions of miles. But so what? Eye candy isn't everything when judging a film's worth.

And like it or not, the PT will always be judged against the originals, since they would not exist without the originals and were built around the assumption that the audience had seen the originals.

The only folks who that doesn't apply to are those who've been brainwashed to think that it's all one 12 hour "saga" of a single film that flows together with no inconsistencies.

For the most part, these seem to be Lucas worshipers that did see the originals first, they're just fanatics.

But suicide bombers? Get real!

Fanatic: People who stick to a belief in spite of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. I wasn't suggesting Star Wars fan boys strap themselves with incendiaries. Did you _really_ think I was? I was comparing the fanaticism.

Old trick: Paraphrase someone, misquoting them, then attack the misquote.

Have you noticed there are now only three regular posters left on this board? Lighten up, guys.

My original choice of word was 'Islamofacist' but I thought, hmm... there are Muslim Star Wars fans too. I could have said 'as fanatical as trekkies', but that sounded too mild since Star Trek is a mostly peaceful religion. Sure, they've had the odd bloody incident like the Jihad against Space 1999 (c. 1975), but for the most part Trekkies are tolerant of other Sci Fis, and even enjoy some cross-over with Dr Who fandom. Agreed. Star Wars is a cultural phenomena, but it isn't worth dying for (although I think there are many on force.net that would violently disagree with me :-)

The "Force"? Surely you mean the Midichlorians? :-)

Nope; it's supposed to be like Buddhist tenents of faith.

Also, can you see my avatar? On my screen, it won't appear. sad.gif

The OT Force was cool. The PT Force has too much in common with salmonella.

people put down the origianls all the time to punish us for not being impressed by the new ones.

the new ones are hollow, shallow, and filled with dialogue that reads like an 8 year girl who ate a months supply of the 'pill' had written them.

Well, yes, most of the dialogue is crap, but, then again, so is "I don't know... fly casual." sick.gif

I guess Cartman isn't a Lucasologist: http://movies.zap2it...--13001,00.html

Has anyone ever picked up a woman with "Sand is scratchy, not like you"? What about at a force.net convention? (assuming a woman actually went to one)?
