Has anyone ever picked up a woman with "Sand is scratchy, not like you"? What about at a force.net convention? (assuming a woman actually went to one)?

Well, maybe that's how GL picked up Marcia. laugh.gif

I love Chefelf's quote about that line. I am paraphrasing: Who's happy? The hundreds of people that just perished in that starship crash?
It seems like everyone is over the nitpicking. Too bad.

George Lucas may not be a god, but he is the most evolved human being on the planet.

Inside the Mind of God^H^H^HGeorge Lucas

Does anyone believe Star Wars is real? Aside from a few clinically delusional cases, probably not. Does anyone *want* to believe it's real? Sure. Fan Boys. They have their secret fantasy world where they (or whichever character they project through) are important, brave and admired (aka Lucas' "Anyone can be a General Rule"). Are there people, who knowing in their hearts that it isn't real, can at the same time think it is real? I suspect so: that may be the Fan Boy Syndrome.

There's a line in 1984 where one of the bad dudes says "If we want to say the Earth is flat, then it is flat. Now for the purposes of navigation we can briefly hop into an imaginary world where we pretend it is round so we can do some calculation. But when we are done, we return to the real world where the Earth is Flat." Fan Boys may live in this sort of duality.

Why do they believe George Lucas no matter what he is saying this year as opposed to a few years before? Maybe because if they doubt him ("Hey! He *IS* changing it as he goes!") it's hard to keep the belief that it is sort of kind of real. If Lucas changes his imaginary world in which they live, they accept it. If he changes it somewhat (Midichlorians, anyone?), they accept it. But if he changed it too much, they start to fall off. Only the more extreme cases hang on.

So it could be a matter of how much someone wants to believe: Chef Elf is occupied by people who fell off halfway through: The Reformed Church of Lucasology. Force.net is occupied by the Fanatic Lucasologists: The Lucasofacists.

Post Marcia and her Toy Boy, Lucas dated Linda Ronstadt so he must be capable of some sexy talk. What line would he have used? "Hey Baby, let's put a mask on little Boba". Oh Lucas, you stud! :-)

You know what, though? The charisma between the cast makes up for that (even making that line chuckleworthy).

In the PT, it's lackluster enough that dialogue that makes sense on paper, sounds confusing and non sequitur on screen. Because everything is so damn flat.
I blame the bluescreens and Lucas, it certainly isn't the actors (see 'shattered glass' if you don't believe me)

This is the prime reason for me that these are so hard to watch.

Next is the awful humor, lack of good villains, and general laziness and lack of depth or real imagination beyond visual effects (reusing old lines endlessly, recycling minor OT characters, etc), but that's second.

Terrence Stamp complained during TPM shooting he showed up one day to shoot the senate scenes with Natalie Portman. Huge blue screen set, no Natalie. "Where is Natalie?" he asks. "We gave her the day off. See that piece of paper? That is 'Natalie'" He was appalled. The Lucasarts CGI Dweebs just don't get it.

(see 'shattered glass' if you don't believe me)

I saw that with the missus on a whim. Yes, Hayden Christensen is actually pretty damned good, and the number of Blue Screens in 'Shattered Glass'? zero. Take the hint, Lucas.

Darth Vader. The original one. He was a scary dude. But General Grevious? My electric fan is scarier. The only place he might have scared people was in Italy, when they heard that awful caricature of an accent: 'Mamma Mia. Not only am I gunna ejecto, but I takea all the escapa podsa with me, then I'm gunna have some nicea pizza pie. Mamma Mia!'
