Well, you have a choice: you can either stand by and do nothing while a maniac causes the Apocalypse, or you can take history by the balls and become a (unsung) hero. Catch 22, I guess...

Well, problem is I'm a bit too close to being a maniac.
You're proof would be...

Slade and I were just discussing a matter of this sort last night. Specificly whether certain regime elements should be executed if a regime change were ever to occur. I'm sure anyone can guess which side I argued for. In the words of Propagandhi, "Kill them all and let a Norse God sort them out"
One example I brought up was that you can imprison a common criminal, but when you have a leader they have loyalists who might eventually free them or aid an escape, even a return to power. Think Napoleon or, on the brighter side, Hugo Chavez.
There's also the fact that the willful conspiracy to abuse the people's trust, as well as comitting uneccessary mass murder, and myriad other crimes, in my opinion, deserves the death penalty, whether by a court, a mob of partesians and a lamp post, or just a bullet. For both moral reasons and utilitarian ones, the death penalty should surely be applied to leaders.

True enough, but what if the large amount of loyalists were enough to break down the system of justice and restore the despot to power? Would you do it yourself?

I'd be willing to kill such a person, provided I had plenty of proof and a few people who at least agreed with me that the target in question was evil. If I was truly alone, I'd suspect I was being paranoid.
As for the actual act, I'd observe and go for something rather subtle. Murder in their sleep, for example.

I'd kick the stool, pull the lever, or drop the sword to signal the firing squad without a second thought.

I stated before that assassinations don't solve problems. There's plenty of rich, white, racist, Christian bigots in this country and any of them could do as good or a better job of raping the earth as the current regime.
Assassination is not a legitimate revolutionary tool and only creates sympathy for the victim. A trial is vastly preferable in that it allows the villain to be faced with their crimes and if at all possible by their victims before justice is carried out.
I'm not a fan of assassination, no matter how loathesome a human being may be. It's far worse to rip these scum from their pedestals, tear them apart in public view, and then end their corrupt and depraved lives. However if anyone were to bring justice to any number of war criminals roaming the earth Idefinately wouldn't shed a tear.

Thankfully they are only native to the United States. I would hate if there were rich, white, racist, Christian bigots in Australia.
