So I started my new job today. That is of little significance when you consider what this now means to me.

1.) I need a new alarm clock.
After suspecting for some time that my alarm clock was being selective about when to go off or not my suspicions were confirmed this morning when it remained silent. Luckily I had set a backup alarm (not trusting my alarm and not wanting to be late for the first day of work -- that looks bad -- you have to wait until at LEAST day two to start showing up late). I has suspected for some time that I'd been inadvertently switching the alarm off in my sleep but this morning I set the alarm for five minutes later and it never went off. Now I need a new alarm clock.
Estimated Cost: $12.00

2.) I need new shoes.
The harsh conditions of a high volume production condition can take their toll on your ordinary, garden variety, pair of shoes rather quickly. My sneakers apparently only last approximately one 9 1/2 hour shift under such conditions. After coming home I realized that my feet were soaked and, in order to avoid getting trench foot, I will have to make an investment in some good kitchen shoes or clogs. This is also necessary to get the appropriate oil-resistant treads that will allow one to avoid serious injury from slipping in a pool of duck grease.
Estimated Cost: $100.00

3.) I need new pants.
I need approximately 2-3 pairs of good, heavy duty, chef pants for the same reason as the shoes. My normal pants will be ruined within a week if I continue to subject them to the rigors of industrial cooking. Also, ill-fitting jeans are not so comfortable after several hours of sweating in them.
Estimated Cost: $80.00

There goes a significant portion of my first check. Oh well. You know what they say: It takes money to make money. Babies having babies!

Poor Nate! It's tough out here in the working world, isn't it?

If it's any help, I have an alarm clock that I'd be glad to donate to your cause. There's nothing wrong with it -- I just couldn't resist buying a new super-duper alarm clock that I saw on QVC! When you plug it in it automatically sets itself to the correct time, and if the power goes out during the night it resets itself so you're never late for work! What will they think of next?

(Now if you can only find someone who has some heavy-duty chef pants or shoes lying around ......) rolleyes.gif

No you don't. My Aunt Deb is an addict. Thank you for the alarm clock though. I'm ready to accept the gift. smile.gif

Being a chef is 10% fun, 90% pain in the ass.

I wish I knew someone also willing to donate socks and underwear.

Hey Elfie, I'd be willing to donate the rest of a half-used bottle of Gold Bond. I'm just sayin'.

Jen: Don't listen to him. Channel 19 on Cox. You will find many things you cannot live without.
Nate: Feel free to stop by and pick up the clock. If not, I'll drop it off at Gram's for your mom to pick up.

I know I certainly can't live without diamondique(sp), or a new and improved bold bracelet.

I'm with Cemetary Guy on this one. You gotta have cubic zirconium on you at all times or life just isnt worth living. It's like trying to live life without a microfilm reader.
