I am sooooo angry and upset.

Edit highlight: Mistake: Should be Video Rental Shopts and notice the two characters at the end of my explanation mark that I didn't put there and sadly I don't have permissions to change my titles like some other people have which really adds onto my misery now. I think I made those mistakes due to the frustration whilst typing and I don't mean all video rental shops just my local one.

Take look at this:

A very rare perfectly good night planned all ruined just because of careless customers who don't take care of the discs and idiots at the shop (noticing a sloppy lazy looking boy and girl there today in uniforms!) who don't bother to check them.

Four out of five discs badly scratched or some of which will cause problems during playback. I checked the labels on the disc just incase they are the wrong ones but not the back of the discs as I never had a problem from years ago. I expected them to be checked before they are put back on the shelves!

If it had been one or two discs I woudn't have got so frustrated but as this is a rare moment with the amount damaged, I have been let down so badly and I felt so devasted that it made me jump up and down hitting my head on the ceiling yelling in anger!!!

Sorry if this might sound like abnormal behaviour but as above I have been let down, robbed of a good night and I feel treated abnormally with the amount of shoddy rental goods from a local shop yet again! This quality of service is worse than buying poor quality pirated movies discs except with brand names on them and I can't even play some.

I am going to go back there on Monday, I feel like having a go about their trendy front covers and logos and demand my money back and a complaint about the poor quality service. Otherwise they are not having the discs back and I am going to send them to the trading office. They can call the police if they want or overcharge me I don't care I am not paying for something shoddy because they no longer care about the quality of my purchase as demonstrated now.

Oh and no swearing is involved from my side. Only anger at paying a premium price and I get carelessness from the renting shoddy goods which has ruined my night which I have been waiting for a long time. My first time back in a long time to the video rental store and this is all I get shoddy decorated goods.

It seems they spend more time or effort protecting the discs from copying and making it difficult to read than protecting the discs on return from people who damage them and the customers interests on viewing them.

They got some things right: Taking my money and protecting the discs from being read or me seeing it apart from one newer disc.

What do you think?

Sorry about how angry or frustrating that sounds but what would you do if it happened to you?

It's normal to see this in DVD in Rental Shops, but I think that the workers of this shops should look how the people used it after they receive them back.

I expected any used items to be checked like the times before but obviously next time I go to ANY store it looks like I'll have to do their jobs and check all sides of the discs I am buying or renting.

Well this thread was a mistake. Now that I am in another state I clearly have anger issues to self address because the only person I am hurting is myself! and I am giving them exactly what they want by having a go.

Sorry about my behaviour I didn't mean to offend or direct anger at anybody here.

Luckily today I was able to recover four films. Two films to go and no problems with playback yet.

I'll attempt to get my money back on the discs that had problems playing and certainly the scratched up one that wasn't even readable.

was this a mom & pop video shop, or a major chain like blockbuster, movie gallery, or hollywood video?

Mireaux7: They were from Blockbuster.
And I see your translated name as Reflect With 7.

Look what I found on one of the sites:
Don't rely on anyone else to entertain you.

Corrections:
Don't rely on anyone else to RUIN your night for you.
Make it a BlockBugger Night

Barend: Sadly I can see my connection being throttled soon and I will have to check to make sure that they don't compress and reduce the quality of the online movies to "make them quicker and easier for customers to download."

reflect with 7, eh? hmm. actually I just chose the name mireaux because i like the way it sounds (murr-row..not myre-ox). sounds sort of artisan, and with me being an avid artists of sorts, it seemed to fit me to a tea. the 7 has no real meaning, other than it being one of my favorite numbers.

as for dvd rental stores. i usually have the clerk present the dvd to me prior to check out. especially if i am going to actually purchase the dvd or video game.

I recognize the word aux in French as with but I see. 13 is my number.

I went back there and they gave me free credit for another film only in their store as they were opened and I didn't return them from the beginning. Different staff were working there today and the man sounded polite and posh. I showed him the damaged disk and they didn't have another copy of Toolbox murders as for the free credit. The first copy I checked behind which was scratched, I look at all their other copies and found only one disc with no scratches of Saw 3.

The man said that there was nothing they could do to customers who damage discs and not every disc is checked even though they do try to check them as much as they can. I should have said "Not good enough" and asked "What is the point in carrying a membership card then?"

It sounds like you had a bad experience mostly in dealing with that specific store. Ive never had any problems with Blockbuster rentals or purchasing used items. But, with obtaining, renting, buying anything used, thoroughly inspect the condition prior to leaving the store.

Usually I inspect items but as I never had a problem before when I borrowed dvds and videos from that shop the last time I didn't expect that to happen. Anyway I will have to be thorough in checking every bit of detail next time.

They are not good at checking returned goods for damages but they are good for over charging when they are returned in late.

My lesson is to check everything.

its my theory that movie rental store employees have become more lazy throughout the years. you can attribute this sloth due to the slow, but steady conversion from VHS to DVD.

no more need for employees to have to rewind movies, dvd ends that.

what??..a returned dvd is scratched?!?,..ahh,..no biggie,.a few scratches wont hurt it, should play just fine, throw it back up on the display rack.

yay! thanks to dvd, it gives video rental shops more room to store more dvd on shelves that were previously occupied by VHS tapes. Lets also not forget that video games of yesterday came in bulky cartridges that took up more space as well., and they too have made the leap onto a disc-based format.

so, since dvds take up less space, it gives the store the ability to stock more various products on their shelves, increasing selection and prosperous hopes of attracting more clients.

it also means because of the increased selection, and more clients..the store employees are a lot busier, and have less time to actually go thru and test and check to ensure dvds are playable.

perhaps some creative mind can invent a machine that discs can be placed inside that can check a dvd within 2 seconds time, and determine if the entire content of the disc can be played in its entirety without any skips or problems. im sure that would solve a lot of issues.

I noticed that on Friday and the returner today. These people were young compared to the frequent old people working there years ago as I remembered. Last time I went there were dvd and video copies of most of the releases then but now there are no videos there.

A few small scratches I am not so concerned about. As in the picture above the last time that happened to me was when someone borrowed a game and badly scratched the disc. He refused to pay or contribute so I complained and didn't lend anymore of my stuff. Except the disc in the picture was even not readable.

I think that would be a good solution. Then they can make use out of the membership cards to keep track and report damages then they can charge for a new disc to those who badly damage them. I think it could cause a lot of issues if it replaces the shop keepers. Good thing is that everything is checked on return but it might not be flexible to problems if someone is not there.
