With third installments of 2 big franchises, and a fifth of an even bigger one coming out, I haven't heard a lot about this Stardust picture. But then I saw a movie poster for it and I was all "WOOTAGE!" It seems to have DeNiro, Claire Daynes and a few other folks, and looks like a fantasy with boats (maybe pirates?) in it. How can this movie not rock out?

My friend in Aus saw a preview for this during Transformers. I think she was more excited about Stardust than the movie she actually went to see.

It all depends on the previews you see.
The first teaser trailers were HORRIBLE
It made the film look very uninteresting
but as time goes on they seem to getting be better.

Somtneing about the Claire Danes character
being a fallen star and Michelle Pfeiffer
as the evil witch that wants to steal her beauty.
At least thats what i got from it

If I understand right, this is based on a Neil Gaiman book. Well, I'm ashamed to admit I haven't read it, but I will probably see the film, since fantasies always look best on the big screen.

I've finally started seeing trailers for this movie, and it looks like it has a high potential to be a delightful, possibly steampunkish movie. If Neil Gaiman is involved, the chance of it being awesome goes up exponentially.

Honestly, it looks like more of the same generic, overused fantasy plot to me. And about 12 of them are coming out all at the same time. But I dunno, maybe it will be okay. I hope so.

Well, it's got DeNiro in it as a sky pirate, so that could be something... wink.gif

The plot seemed overused to me from what I saw in the trailer, and I was sort of reminded of the Dungeons and Dragons Movie, but now that I know Neil Gaiman was involved, I'm more than willing to give it a chance.

The trailers don't give a good impression, though.

I saw this movie, and I must say I quite enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun and pretty good. There were some typical Hollywood fallout moments (like slapping me in the face with the obvious, a bit of cliche), and I think it wrapped up a bit too nicely at the end, but I'd recommend anyone who likes a good fantasy adventure check it out.

I saw it and it reminded me of The Princess Bride. Very funny movie, I enjoyed it, even though they have this habit of filming Claire Danes in a way that insults her nose.

Yeah, Princess Bride thoughts went through my head second. The first thought was "Holy shit this movie is good" I can't reccomend it highly enough, especially now it's out on dvd. I think one of the reasons that I got on so well with Stardust is that I'd just watched The Painted Veil ahead of it.

SPOILER

When you watch 2 hours of an English couple snipping at eachother, talking about cholera, and then dying,

END SPOILER

It's nice to sit down to a quasi English couple actually having a really cute relationship and living happily ever after. The ghosts were possibly the best part.

Also did anyone else notice that Septimus WAS Snape? Even down to the name (Rowling got Severus, his first name, from Roman emperor Septimus Severus) I would say they may as well have gotten Rickman in on it, but the actor demands as immediate ntoice as much as his character does when walking into the potions dungeon. My most vivid memory of Order of the Phoenix will always be the one or two lines he had with Umbridge, and I somehow doubt I'm alone in that.

But back to Stardust, jebus, that's a great movie. They had a lot of star power in the thing, but it didnt seem to be slapping you in the face, I got the impression that these actors weren't in it to act, they were in it to make a fun film, and just sort of blended into it. The Princess Bride is the only fantasy movie that I can compare to this, and I think that in a generation or so, another movie will come along that will be compared to Stardust.
