I was wondering if anyone knew of an xbox game that could compare to UT. And please, don't say Halo. I'm looking for the different modes, the rocking guns, the commentary, the girth of weapons, etc. I was looking at some of the unreal titles but none of them seem to be focused on the tournament play.

Gargh.... I have an aversion to Halo and its offspring. I don't know why, but I've tried it and it just doesn't capture the perverse fun of Unreal.

It's not quite Unreal or anything, but if you're just looking for a fun first-person shooter with variety and a multi-player mode, I'd recommend Timesplitters 2. It doesn't take itself seriously, though. Great gameplay with a bit of humour and silliness thrown in, like getting to play as a snowman or a monkey or a Chinese chef or a clown bimbo. Oh, and it has zombies. But I dunno if it has online play, as I've never used Xbox online stuff.

Meh. Halo was boring and predictable, and only had about seven generic FPS guns. I don't think shooters really belong on consoles, to be honest. It's so awkward trying to move and aim with two thumbsticks, no matter what game, what control scheme, and what controller you use. Give me a keyboard and a mouse any day.

The only console games I can think of that are nearly as fun as UT are GoldenEye and Perfect Dark for the N64, and the Time Splitters series 2 and 3, which are multi-platform.

I actually like the way you move with console controllers. It's pretty much the same as the keyboard/mouse setup, with the left thumbstick being the keyboard, the right thumbstick being the mouse.

And I didn't even know there was a Timesplitters 3! I totally have to check that out.

Yup. It's nowhere as fluid as keyboard and mouse, but it does the job and it's not alienating for the brain.

But then you fall on a game like Metroid Prime, where, to accomplish the 2 most basic tactics in FPS (aim correctly and strafe) you need to do combo with their clumsy L/R buttons, which also happen to be used for 2 other actions, and where you can't even customize the controls, the little kid inside of you, that was shouting "Omigod! It be tha sequel to Super Metroid! laugh.gif" with joy, curls up on the floor and start crying.

Well, they did make several unreal games for the xbox, and they were the multiplayer variety. Not sure of the names, just thought I'd let you know

Personally, I play as Robofish.

Also, you should really check out the anaconda cartridge hidden in the first level. Get four players, and it's the best multiplayer game you'll ever play.
