I looked for a thread on this, was surprised none existed.

Lately, Im finding myself buying more and more DVDs lately..why?, because they seem to be a better deal ever than before.

Recently, many movies are being offered as part of this "Double & Triple feature" sets. Its basically your typical DVD case, but with 2 or 3 films compiled onto a single DVD. Usually 2 movies on one side, and a 3rd film on the reverse side.

Today, I have bought the Rocky Anthology..thats right,.the first 5 rocky films all in one package for $20.00. and although the rocky anthology isnt really a true disc compilation, but rather 5 films on seperate discs,.maybe im just bragging, because its on sale this week at target (hint: go buy this bad boy!!!)

aside from that, i recently acquired "addams family & addams family values",."lethal weapon 1, 2 & 3", and "mission impossible 2 & 3" i also own some sort of steven seagal compilation with "fire down below", "out for justice",..and some other film on it.

yeah,.you noticed the same thing i did,..where the hell is "mission impossible one" at?, thats kinda weird, to compile the last 2 films of the trilogy, and not the first.

but this isnt the only exception, there are lots of these new dvd compilations that will have one film from one franchise, and some other film that is only related by either general genre, or by featuring the same actor in both films.

"The never ending story 1 & 2"..that makes sense to include both films onto one disc. so does including "gettysburg & gods and generals" (since the latter is a sequel to the former as well.)

but when i stroll thru best buy, walmart, circuit city,.i see some really weird compilations thrown together. ..and for the life of me, i cant recollect what these films are,.but trust me, they do exist, and next time i see them, ill update this thread to warn the rest of you.

but its like, you see these other compilations, which are usually related by being in the same genre or having the same actor/actress, and you think "gee, i really like one of the movies on that compilation disc, but the other film was sheer crap"

thats right, because in a lot of cases thats exactly what they do,.they bundle a well loved film,.maybe even blockbuster film, with a piss poor sorry movie so that youre duped into buying the sucky movie, that no way would have sold on its own merit on its own disc.

i assume someone decided. "hey, lets put more than one film onto a disc..it will reduce shipping and transpostation costs, reduce warehouse storage needs,..reduce shelve space needed in the retail stores, reduce manufacturing costs,.less space needed in the consumer's home"

...for these reasons, i commended their intellect. I guess it all depends on personal tastes. some people will watch anything, and give film a try. some people love all movies.

all in all, its a great deal, and im glad they finally decided to do this. i wish more compilations appealed to me than whats currently out there. i guess within a short time, more offerings will soon become available.

I'm listening to a chatty podcast called "DVD Digigods" which is pretty good. I'm at work, producing away so I don't mind listening to their weekly 70 minute banter about all things DVD. All Genres are covered, and they let you know about all the extra features (or lack thereof). Check it out. Doesn't hurt that one of the guys and I think practically alike on many topics.

I havent yet invested in the purchase of a mp3 player. i know many will say im living in the past. I do have XM radio in my car, so that suffices thus far. And I do own quite a large number of CDs, so once I do get an mp3 player, Im set to load it up.

I guess the reason for my procastination, is I see the technology moving so fast, Im waiting to see what more innovations they included in them. The I-phone is quite an impresssive feat.

As far as a Podcast, you lost me. I dont quite know what that is. Is that something you subscribe to?

A podcast is basically a downloadable radio show of sorts. The "pod" part comes from the fact that, typically, they're subscribed to through iTunes, which downloads the latest episodes automatically so you can sync them to your iPod and take them to go. However, you can just as easily download the audio files and listen to them on your PC, or burn them to a CD to throw in the car or something.
Talking about podcasting makes me want to resurrect my idea for a weekly music review podcast...
