Also, I turn 24 tomorrow, so if you want to get me a present just plug my games on your popular internet forum of choice to indirectly boost my special edition income, which has trickled off at late.

I've bought all your special editions released thus far and I would be more than happy to pay for special editions of 'Adventures in the Galaxy of Fantabulous Wonderment' and 'Trials of Odysseus Kent' as well. You mentioned in Trilby's Notes that the special editions were the most enjoyable part of the game design process so I'm honestly curious as to why you never did one for 'Galaxy' at the very least. Were you burned out on it at the time or just didn't feel like doing it for whatever reason?

Either way, thanks for making such awesome games and I look forward to seeing what you come up with next.

Sincerely,

Megane 6.7

For GFW, there was no special edition because the game is open ended and it would have been complicated to make sure the commentary to pop at the right moment.

However, I think it's too late for that now since these games are rather old. Unlike a new game, a special edition to GFW or Odysseus wouldn't attract new faces here, so if Yahtzee wanted more income, it would be better to release new games, which would attract legions of fans with a handful of them who would buy the special editions.

I too would have loved a GFW SE, but at this point, if we want behind the scene information on GFW or Odyseeus, it would be easier and simplier for Yahtzee to tell us about them on FR or, if there ever are sequels for them, simply talk about them in the sequels' special editions. Unless if 1213 SE and the GFW comic still sell well even in 5 years from now, or unless if the release of TN SE and the Chzo Mythos pack dramatically increased the sells of 5/7DaS SE, I wouldn't hold my breath for special editions of these games.

A patch for Trials of Odysseus Kent wouldn't hurt however. My speakers (or internal speaker when I turn the volume off) goes berserk everytime I move the mouse cursor in that game.

Now why is it that Yahtzee's been milking the games for moolah anyway? How much does he make at that riveting job of his?

I'm pretty sure if he was going to answer that question, he would say he makes somewhere between "None of" and "Your Business".

That's before taxes, anyhow.

Hmm, now that you think of it, more money would probably be made if he spent more time working and less making free games for us to play...

No...wait...forget that...no it wouldn't, keep making games and everything will be alright. Though, given that I am currently really stuck at the beginning of ep 3 of 1213, it'll be some time before the existence of any new games is of any real interest to me. Unless I give up.

Well, according to Dave Gilbert on AGS, when you make an indie commercial game, an awful amount of time is actually spend pimping and plugging the games on every freeware, independant games or adventure community to get the word spread out, even the old games that are more than 1 year old. It seems to me like an unhealthy amount of time spend not creating.

One method that will be used by Nifflas, for his next project will be to release Knytt Stories as freeware but charge to get the privilege to download several extensions and add-on levels from his website. It seems to me like a good compromise between offering something substancial for sale that will more likely interest the hardcore fans while not having to pimp his game on every websites out there, nor having to release an incomplete freeware game or only telling half of the story in it. While it wouldn't work for classic and linear adventure games, I suppose this method could be used if Yahtzee ever makes more games like GFW or 1213.

I do remember talking with someone who told me it was possible to create an add-on system for AGS, I suppose it could be implemented in games similar to GFW, and if we take GFW in example, could add new zones to explore with planets, enemies and subquests without affecting the rest of the game. As for games in episodic format like 1213, it seemed like Yahtzee had the game's mechanism finished and all that had to be done was changing the game's content, the method used for Knytt Stories would work here.

But only Yahtzee knows his games' sales numbers and could tell whether or not it would worth spending some sleepless nights to program such features or worth spending an entire month on bonus episodes that may or may not sell well.

By the way, if you haven't played Nifflas' games, I urge you to do so.

One thing you could try is to make the Chzo Quadrillogy deluxe editions available for one day on http://www.gamedujour.com/
For those who don't know, Game du Jour is a site where each day a single game is put on sale for 50%-75% off. You'd get a brief burst of exposure and brief burst of income as people are anxious to get a good deal and short lived deal. Since it's a single day deal, you don't have to worry about backlash from putting the price back to normal afterwards. I haven't seen many adventure games on it, but that could mean that website has an untapped audience.
Couldn't hurt.

Sound like a good plan, a few quick buck with not too much time wasted in pimping.
