Did the presence of the Emperor in this episode meet your expectations from what we saw of him in the all-too brief Hologram scene in ESB, or were you disappointed?

I was more surprised that
Darth Vader hadn't smacked
the Emperor on his ass sooner.

Well even before seeing
Eps. II or III i knew Vader was

more powerful than the Emperor.
Basically Vader could of been the

Emperor. Anakin didn't need Palps
and it took him like 20 something years

to figure it out naaaaaah man thats just wrong.
I get that GL wanted Luke to save Vader but

realistically it wouldn't have gone down like that
I know its not real but you get what i mean right?

No I don't. From the OT on it's own, there was very little to support Vader being more stronger than the Emperor. We saw Vader at his best in ESB but in ROTJ he was clearly playing second to the Emperor. But at that point we knew too little about the Emperor. I do not think that many people would have thought of the two ever fighting one another.

Vader was just a monster/henchmen in STARWARS who servered under Tarkin. In ESB he clearly played second fiddle to the Emporer. The hologram scene where vader bows and says "master" is good enough for me. In ROTJ he speaks about the emporer being powerful and wise.

Vader was the go to guy in every film. He did all the foot work. But he wasn't calling the shots. He didn't even persue his own son without Palpatines council.

yes it was obvious to me that Vader
was stronger b/c he did pull all the weight he

must've been crippled emtionally, had Luke come

along earlier or something that reminded him of Padme
and i believe the Emperor would've died of mysterious causes

i thought the emporer kicked ass...

as depicted in this medieval tapestry

I'm just pissed of, that even though i hated the prequels, we never saw the redguards fight.

You know, I doubt the Red Guards were even supposed to fight.

As for the Emperor's grand unveiling; it was pretty impressive, and certainly more ominous than its counterpart in the James Bond series. angry.gif

People knock the hammy acting, but I think the Emperor was one of the few things done right in ROTJ.

It seems like everyone is over the nitpicking. Too bad.

I agree. I loved the emperor in RotJ, he seemed totally evil and supremely self-confident. He was just this dreadful, shriveled ball of hatred and spite and cruelty, utterly without remorse or decency. Of course, they turned him into a total buffoon for RotS...argh.

In the OT, I think it's pretty obvious that Vader < the Emperor. At the very least, Palpy doesn't need assistance breathing. tongue.gif As far as Sithness goes, Vader wouldn't be a master until he killed Palpy (as any good sith does once his/her master shows weakness/ the disciple feels that (s)he has learned all (s)he can and is stronger than said master), which then, of course, didn't go very well.

You know, between the PT and the OT, I think Palpatine mellowed a little. Then, of course, all his success goes to his head, and he ends up falling headfirst into a giant reactor. Yikes. unsure.gif
