It's a hard question, Sailor. I've never actually given any thought to who might be the coolest character in the prequels. On the otherhand though, you'd have to agree that 'coolest prequel character' is not exactly a highly coveted title either.

I found him more interesting than Count Dooku if it's any consolation...

My GOD, Count Dooku is a stupid name.

Naming the "coolest character in the PT" is like trying to find the "coldest snowball in hell." There just aren't any cool characters in the PT.
"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

Well Dooku is better than Darth Tyrannus
What the Hell is Tyrannus?
We know Christopher Lee is tall and old but come on
thats a million times give or take than Dooku
either way the guy loses on both fronts

He's a potentailly good character because Lucas didn't take the time to screw him up? He never cackled, never talked about symbiote organisms, never said "yippee," didn't talk in a fake English accent sometimes and not at others, didn't cite previous films, didn't crack stupid jokes, and never stepped in bantha poo.

As to the coolness of Darth Maul, civilian is correct. However, if Obi-Wan had not killed Darth Maul in TPM, when do you think Darth Maul would have stepped in Bantha turd?

Based on Lucas's track record, he probably would have stepped in a steaming Bantha turd when he went back to Coruscant to report to Sidious. Sidious would have had this lumpy Bantha turd right in the walkway leading to his throne. Darth Maul returns to report his failure to kill Obi-Wan and just steps in it. Squish! The camera zooms in on the turd. Maul looks directly at the camrea and shrugs. He shakes his foot free from the turd and continues walking forward to give his report. Then, 20 years in the future, Lucas is rereleasing TPM like he did Episodes IV-VI. A number of people are complaining about the Darth Maul/Bantha turd scene. So instead of removing it completely, he adds CGI steam coming off the Bantha turd to make it look fresher and funnier and a battle droid who witnesses the whole blunder saying "Roger roger!"

Anyway, it's a good thing Obi-Wan did kill him. Otherwise, this scene may have hit the big screen.

It's time to reveal myself. I am actually George Lucas and have been lurking on your board for a while. You show keen insight and clearly understand the complex factors that film making entails. Basically, I like your thinking. Come join me us the Skywalker Ranch where pre-production on the new movies is already underway. At reception, ask to see 'Grand Canon'. Do not ask to see 'George', as that'll mark you as a force.net shill and you would be promptly bounced.

You know, you could apply the critiria for Darth Maul to Boba Fett and they'd be exactly the same. wacko.gif
