Slashdot has another story, this time on the upcoming Clonez kidz series:

http://slashdot.org/...7/05/27/2040256

Very good post KurganX. Couldn't agree more. The Human Eye is a very difficult device to fool, and it's great at spotting 'Hey, that's not right' flaws and they grate. Something as stupid as Dooku's double-somersault. It couldn't possibly be real: I laughed: Suspension of disbelief suspended.

The funny thing is, any actor who gave a performance above the typical James Bond Megalomaniac would have been a much better Grievous than Grievous (and a name like Grievous? He might have well worn a T-shirt that said "1 Dimensional Character").

> Of course some CG just looks fake (like some of the close ups of Yoda, or the Clone Trooper armor when Morrison takes off/puts on his helmet).

Lucas *boasted* about this on the director's commentary. He said "We didn't make a single suit of Clone Armour." My question.... WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY???????????

Also noticed on the commentaries his CGI guys have far too much control. Far more than the creative types. Hell, Lucas is their only writer.

Fair to say the old movies have a realistic feel to them that parts of the prequels do not.

I noticed this. Watching the dogfight in ROTJ was *better* than the plastic prequels.

==== New Movies, Wired Coverage

Slashdot has another story, this time on the upcoming Clonez kidz series:

http://slashdot.org/...7/05/27/2040256

Wired also has a huge in-depth coverage of all things Star Wars. If you want to burgle your neighbourhood Force.Net loser, do it today. He(*) will be so glued to his Mac's screen he won't notice. The bad news is, unless a bookcase of Special Edition DVDs and Boba-Fett action figures is your bag, he'll have nothing worse taking.

http://www.wired.com...s/2007/05/lucas

(*) = I deliberately use the masculine pronoun. I doubt females would mind being excluded from this group.

I liked this, from a positive review of the 'Empire at War' PC Game:

QUOTE
Normally, I cringe whenever Lucas launches another movie. Ever since the Ewoks appeared in 1983's Return of the Jedi, his films have steadily tobogganed downwards into a vale of unwatchability. It's hard to figure out what Lucas has done worse: Is it his increasingly Disneyfied characters? His wooden scripts? Or the plots that, having been carefully denuded of action sequences, instead focus on, y'know, trade disputes?

==== CGI

Sorry for the double post. Couldn't edit the old item and thought I had to reply to change it. That's how I did the "Quoran of Qibbles": three replies coalesced into one huge rant^H^H^H^H journey of the mind.

Bah, misleading statements and cheap ratings boosters I smell.

There are no "new star wars movies" that's just another fanboy wet dream (even the half of us here who hated the prequels and the special editions would still get excited about "episodes 7, 8, 9 announced" even if it were 95% certain to be BS).

The "Clone Wars" is NOT a "New Star Wars Movie."

It's not coming to theaters. It's a TV SHOW.

It's not live action (I know, I know, but at least the Prequels had a token cast of human actors in costumes and makeup standing in front of blue/green screens, there's at least a real person in most of the scenes...).

It's not in the format of the movies, it's just a continuation/extension of the existing Clone Wars cartoon, done in CGI rather than traditional animation. Look at the movie characters, they don't look like their counterparts, they're cartoon caricatures of them, a la "TMNT" "Toy Story" and "Shrek."

If it's anything like the previous CW series, it's going to be short snippets of mostly repetative, over the top action. If the trailer is any indication, it'll be lots of minor character wanking and body counts... the sort of thing to sell action figures and promote video games, not flesh out weaknesses of the movies.

If anything, it's bound to add MORE inconsistencies... since when do we have ANOTHER super weapon?

It was bad enough that the game "Clone Wars" (no relation) for consoles added a "sith super weapon" between Episodes II and III that was lost and forgotten (unless this is the same one, but I highly doubt it, though I didn't play that game) by Episode III, and that we have the Death Star already begun (meaning it took 20 years to build the one we saw in ANH, nevermind the bigger and more powerful one in ROTJ that took a year or less!), now we've got some kind of "Death Star" type weapon that can blow up capital ships (if the editing isn't deceptive, but just look at that shot of the droids "covering their eyes" in the blast chamber, except it has purplish lightning instead of a green beam, and then some big cruiser blowing up and Grievous cackling with a "yes!" fist pump).

I wonder if Grievious in this will be the coughing coward blowhard Grievous from Episode III, or the demonic, "ultimate fighter" wankfest from CW season 2/3? (will Durge return? Too many minor villians!).

Anyway, so that's not a "movie" and neither is the new live action series, that's a TV show as well.

And the 3-D movies won't be made, and no new DVD special editions, not even any High Def versions announced.

We got Celebration IV (CW trailer being the highlight, according to the internet drool) and some stamps in an R2 D2 mailbox (they've still got our's up at least as of yesterday in downtown Nashville).

I bet SuperShadow got a few hits out of this...

Kind of divided here. I was a Star Wars fan before I became a comic book afficionado, but when I read the article where George Lucas said Spider-man 3 was silly I laughed. I like the prequels and find the good in them but I still cringe when I watch some of them and certain scenes I wished were left out. For all the hype Lucas made about the prequels, they didn't deliver. Not even Episode III and that one should have been the one to deliver all the hype. At least the Spider-man franchise delivered, even though one could argue the 3rd one fell a little short but not as bad as the prequels. I'll always love Star Wars and if there are going to be more made I just hope Lucas can make them like he used to. Here's hoping he doesn't screw up Indiana Jones 4...
"And shepherds we shall be for Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth unto Thee and teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti!!!"

I had a strange dream last night. About George Lucas in a space station running from Miss Piggy and meeting his demise in a faulty escape capsule. Seriously. Then I woke to read this:

QUOTE
"Lucas to release new Stars Wars film"
http://www.smh.com.a...2760363765.html
February 13, 2008.

"Lucasfilm Ltd and the Warner Bros film studio said today they would release the animated movie on August 15, ahead of the debut of an animated TV series of the same name on cable television's Cartoon Network and TNT. "I felt there were a lot more Star Wars stories left to tell," Lucas said in a statement. "I was eager to start telling some of them through animation and, at the same time, push the art of animation forward."

Tarkin: He lied, He lied to us.
Vader: I told you he would never consciously turn down the opportunity to make more money.
Tarkin: Have his force.net fanboys terminated, immediately.

Well it's animation so I don't really care, but if someone gives it to me I'll watch it. So long as it doesn't have Count Dooku doing triple somersaults or General Jar Jar

QUOTE
"Lucasfilm said each episode on TV would be like a 30 minute "mini-movie" with Jedi Knights battling villains such as Count Dooku and General Grievous."

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did he hear nothing that we say? Well, Whatever George. You could make 30 minute mini-movies of Bantha Poo and fanboys would still rush out to buy the Hasbro Bantha Poo action figures.

Now the new Hobbit movie; *that* I'm looking forward too.

Somehow I missed this (even though I posted in this thread 6-7 months ago) and reposted something about it today: http://www.chefelf.c...h...ic=7113&hl=

I'm not looking forward to coming out of retirement for this.

Didnt Lucas once say that he wished he could make his movies without actors? To quote 3p0 "You'll never get me into one of those things." The prequels were already cartoonish, now that hes making actual cartoons I dread what we'll get. I think a cartoon is easier to get to do step in bantha poodoo than Ewan MacGregor or Liam Neeson.

And I have nothing against cartoons. Gargoyles for example was animated but turned out great storylines that, because of the subject matter, simply couldnt have been done as well through live action. I don't trust Lucas to do the same though.

I am very happy that Lucas is doing this. It makes people appreciate the originals that much more.

That man wittingly phrases things in a way just to piss me off. I don't need to cut into it item by item, don't have the patience. But if you don't accept every word as his as gospel, disdain toward the fans is transparent.

Uh, okay, so the CGI version (re-imagined? filling in gaps of events not covered in the previous cartoon?) of "Clone Wars" is being shown in theaters.

BIG FRIGGIN' WHOOP.

That's just a cheap way to sell toys and advertise with the misleading line "NEW STAR WARS MOVIE TO HIT THEATERS..."

Technically true, but this'll just be more EU filler...
