I have netflix, and have had it for about 8 months now. My girlfriend has blockbuster's total access going on about 5 months now.

we each have the "2 movies out-at a time, unlimited rentals" plan. the price is pretty much the same with both services.

In general, I like the idea of online rental services...here is some reasons why:

* Instead of visiting mulitple stores looking for a particular film, I have one source that pretty much has every film available I can fathom.

*No more waiting in long lines to check out films, this saves me time.

* I dont have to try to remember films that I want to see, only to forget them, and never see them. This happens a lot to me when I go to Best Buy, etc. I will see a film displayed that I want to see,.but soon forget about it, and never watch it. With an online rental service, I can add any movie I want to see to my queue,.and its their job to remember that film,.then send it to me.

*One standard price to pay each month..no matter what film I want to see. Unlike stores, which will usually charge a higher rate if a movie is brand new.

* No late fees/can keep a film as long as I want.

*Saves on gas money. No more trips of having to drive to the store to return the film.

* No more driving. I dont have to take the time to drive back and forth to the store.

*They usually have questionnaires, to try to cater to your viewing interests, that way, recommendations for films are somewhat tailored to your interests.

Before I joined netflix, i compared both services side-by-side. I saw that Netflix offered over 75,000 films, and Blockbuster only boasted over 70,000. I also perused each website, to view its layout, if it was user-friendly, and if I could easily find the "I want to cancel my account" button. Thats always helpful,.because many companies try to make it difficult to cancel your service.

So I ended up going with Netflix. I have been happy with them for the most part,.up until recently,.because it seems like it has been taking somewhat longer for my films to get to me.

I pay about $15 a month, and during the course of that time, I end up watching anywhere of between 8 and 12 films. Usually after watching the films, I will seal them up, and drop them in the mailbox on sunday night. They go out in monday morning's mail, and by wednesday of the same week,.i have new films in my mailbox.

lately though, its been taking longer. Im not sure if its cause netflix's subscriber base has swelled, and netflix is now understaffed to handle the demands. or what the deal is?

I have often wondered if the folks up at netflix are being lazy. I also wonder if their offices are staffed on saturdays, because I will sometimes put my movies in friday's mail,.and theoretically, i should have new movies in my mailbox by monday. but, if they are staffed on saturdays, and arent doing their jobs, but are instead playing Nerf basketball in their office cubicles,..then this would explain why my films dont arrive until about 2 days later.

My girlfriend has blockbuster total access. so, instead of waiting for her films to arrive in the mailbox, she can simply return her watched & sealed film back to the local blockbuster store, and exchange it for a film that is inside of the store itself.

the way this works is that the clerk she hands her sealed film to, is supposedly supposed to mail it back to blockbuster that same day so that she can get the next film in her online queue. I guess they are doing their job well, because she hasnt seemed to have any complaints with their service, thus far...

I have been tempted to switch to blockbuster, just due to my recent problems with netflix.

And although blockbuster allows the options of "getting more movies per month" by allowing you to check movies out from their store, instead of waiting for them to come in the mail....i still dont like that idea,.because the due dates are still attached to the films you check out from the store.

how many movies does blockbuster think the average 40 hour work week customer can really watch in a month? i find myself sometimes limited with time, and not really able to even watch the films i get with my netflix. i dont think there has ever been any given month that me or my girl has ever been able to watch each other's movies before sending them back in. ...that is of course, should any of our films interest us both. like many girls, she is into a lot of sandra bullock/julia roberts type chick-flicks. I like man-made films where people die and things explode.

anyways thats my two cents on it all. if any of you have either service, comment with your experience with them.

I've got Netflix mainly for the selection, but I find myself setting the movies aside for a week or so before I get around to watching it.

I've been with Blockbuster and really enjoy it. I watch them and return them for free rentals. I think I've watched over a hundred dollars worth in Blockbuster rentals. Plus the one free game I get per month. It works out pretty good for only $19.

you get one free video game rental per month too?..hmm maybe i need to switch. i wonder if the free game is with all their plans, or just the pricier ones.

i actually recently downgraded my netflix plan, with it being summertime, im finding myself more outdoors now, and less likely to watch movies at home.

They e-mail a coupon once a month which you can use for either free movies or free games. I use mine for games since I get free movies with the mail-in rentals. It's with whatever plan you choose.
