pretty straightforward. if you want other chefelfers to know where you hail from, let us know. if there is something cool or interesting about where you reside, let us know that too.

me: i live in dallas, texas, u.s.a. which the greater metropolitian area has a population of over 5.5 million people, and is ever growing. the job market here is very dynamic with opportunities abound everywhere. many large corporations either have their home offices here, or have a branch office here. the dallas area is very culturally diversified, just about every ethnicity imaginable resides here.

the crime rate is relatively low considering the vast population. the highway system is one of the world's best designed, any point in the metroplex is just a short drive away, with many more highways being planned for future development.

dallas is a shopper's paradise. the dallas area has 21 shopping malls, and is one of the biggest shopping meccas in the world, just about anything you want to buy is here. the dallas metropolitan sprawl is the largest sprawl in the united states that is not situated by an ocean, this means its bigger than phoenix, chicago, minneapolis-st paul, denver, atlanta, and kansas city.

considering the size of the population, and the many jobs available here, the area boasts a rather moderate pricing range for real estate. most average 3 bed homes can be bought for under $200k.

Yeah...I got LOST in one of those monsters during a band trip. Then again, I have a strange tendency to get lost in any shopping mall that isn't in my local area (makes for many fun - and panic attack riddled - memories). Or any new or not-often-visited location with any group of people I'm not especially familiar with.

...I like to let my legs take a page out of my brain's book and wander off randomly, often without warning or reason.

Aaaaaanyway.

My place of residence is revealed if you just shift your gaze slightly leftward...there it is - fourth line under those little blue boxes. Mireaux, you may have even heard of it, or not, I may be confusing your location with Houston... However, I'm not nearly as well versed with my city's Chamber of Commerce information ( tongue.gif ), so there's not much I can tell you. (Sure, I've lived here almost ten years...but I really don't get out much...) And technically, I live in a small suburban town just outside of Lake Charles.

One thing about the city that I think is downright awesome, but haven't been able to experience nearly enough because those responsible for my transportation think it's just another trashy carnival, is Contraband Days! A festival held every May to celebrate the only thing cooler than ninjas - PIRATES! Specifically Louisiana's historic Gentleman Pirate, Jean Lafitte. The railings on our main bridge crossing over the lake between the town of Westlake and the rest of the city are even lined with dozens and dozen of crossed pistols in honor of him.

But the whole thing starts with a parade - like a tiny Mardi Gras meets pirates - then goes on into a carnival, shows, boat races and shows(? It's been a while...and last time I only got a look at the carnival for a couple of hours), loads of pirate-themed antics and costumes and shops/booths (I nearly bought my own sword once...but I wasn't old enough then...), and by true piratey tradition, every year we make the mayor walk the plank into Lake Charley! Haha! Nothing brings the community together like live televised water torture of our city's top political official. laugh.gif

...I any of the above seems incoherent/stupid/confusing to you...it's because I need to go to bed instead of trying to remember and properly explain something I've only been allowed to attend two or three times in the past decade.

...I'm getting that sword this year, dammit...

Uhh, alrighty... there's three places I reside in from time to time, all scattered around somewhere in Germany.

First would be Sanitz in Mecklenburg-Pommerania (yes, even in German, that name sounds dumb), in the north east, where my familiy's at. The region is a bit underdeveloped (it's one of the "new" states that we accquired after the fall of the Berlin Wall), people don't refer to it as the place "where the world ends a hundred years too late" for nothing.

But the streets are nice, since we've been investing a lot of money to make up for the mess that the former German Democratic Republic left there. If you venture into the West nowadays, you may find yourself wondering whether the two states really re-united, or just switched places, in regards to streets. pinch.gif

Mecklenburg-Pommerania is known for its rural charme and as a state for tourists, though people are quite... stubborn and closed minded there. But yeah, I really miss lying on the beach all day long. crying.gif Sanitz was just thirty kilometres away from the shore.

Sadly, there are some no-go areas for foreigners there... some people apparently never learn. sad.gif

Okay, second one would be Ratingen, in North Rhine-Westphalia, West Germany, somewhere in the Ruhr Area, where you step out of a major city only to reach the next one after walking for two metres. That's where the fun's at. People are nice, sometimes a bit too crazy, and their accent isn't as horrible as in some other places.

Also, you sometimes wonder if there are any German's left at all in this place, you can hear almost every language of the world while riding a train there, but hardly come across German anymore. happy.gif The increasingly dominant sub-culture here is being created by Turks.

Lastly, Stuttgart, Baden-Wuerttemberg, where I'm currently at for my studies. Nice city. I don't really know why they had to build it in such a hilly place, but yeah, the Swabians (native people of Baden-Wuerttemberg, featuring a horrible, horrible accent pinch.gif) are a bit strange anyway. The city itself is the state's capital, but you hardly see any really high buildings here (Boooooring!). However, large parts of the city are owned by big companies, like Bosch, Stihl and DaimlerChrysler. If you should ever stop by here by chance, then I can really recommend having a look at the Mercedes Museum here, it's as awesome as it can get.

Okay... I guess that would be it.

Oulu, Finland. I guess the best way to tell about this town would be with a true story.

Years ago (probably 15, I don't know) someone painted a piece of graffiti on a wall in central
Oulu. The graffito said "Paska kaupunni", which means "shitty city" in English. Except it's slightly misspelled to make it sound more like the local dialect. Anyway, it was washed down pretty soon, but someone painted it back. So it was removed again, but in just a few days it had mysteriously reappeared. It went on like that for years, and it still hasn't stopped. See, the graffiti's gained some sort of a cult status and has become one of the defining features of the town, so whenever it's wiped off, someone always paints it back sooner or later. There's even a bar named Paska Kaupunni in this town.

So, yeah. Your piece of useless information of the day.

BAMF! This is the Nightlife's Frappr on the old thread. We totally need more people signing up there!

I live outside of Rochester, NY, because I go to RIT. RIT is rather RITarded sometimes, what with being a private school and all, but downtown has a Dinosaur Barbeque and is rather pretty in general. Henrietta (the suburbish place where RIT is located) is chock full of department stores, grocery stores, and malls. We have a big Dick's and Gander Mountain, Wal*Mart and Wegman's, every food chain that exists in western NY, and for some reason we get Sonic commercials on TV even though I don't think NY even has a single Sonic. (That's the drive-in chain, of course, not the blue hedgehog.)
This space for rent. Inquire within.

And you don't have Waffle House! Oh, how I pity those who have never eaten at a good Waffle House (I add the "good" in there because up until the last 3 years or so, Waffle House was a sketchy place).

So, yeah. SC. Waffle Houses ever 2 miles, or maybe even not that far from each other. There are some roads that are only a couple miles long that have 4 Waffle Houses just along that road...

We have some other neat stuff besides Waffle House, though. I find it pretty awesome that you can go to the mountains and then the beach in the same day, both of which are gorgeous and fun. Also we're not over-industrialized anywhere in the whole state, and even the big cities (well, big for us - Charleston, Columbia, and Greenville) are clean and friendly and pretty. Well... Except I don't like Columbia (our state capital), but that's personal preference. Our summers often have days in the 100 degrees (F), and our winters rarely have days below freezing. Depending on where you live, though, you might get snow - the upstate gets snow every now and then, and the lower part of the state very, very, very rarely does. The difference in temperatures from the north part of the state to the lower is more drastic than you'd think.
At least in my part of SC, there are lots of people from other places, so lots of diversity. I really like that.
Oh, and we have two colleges here that are HUGE rivals. Probably one of the biggest school rivalries ever. Fights break out all the time, and just this past fall, someone shot and killed his buddy over a bet on the football game between the two teams. It's ridiculous - people that have never been to either college, and have no relatives that go to either college pick a team and act like their whole family will be tortured to death if their team doesn't win. That's one thing I don't like about SC. That plus the Confederate flags. Bleh.

So that's a briefing on my state. Yep, Waffle House and hotness. All you need to know, really. tongue.gif
I am writing about Jm in my signature because apparently it's an effective method of ignoring him.

well, i did a little research for you on why youre getting sonic commercials where you are. it seems the company broadcasts their commercials on a national basis, regardless of if a sonic location is near you or not. but fear not, sonic is a very aggressive company that is ever expanding, and it wont be too much longer until your area has one too.

they are quite good, and they are known for excellent drinks! they will make you any drink you can imagine (non-alcoholic, of course) ...i recommend a chocolate dr. pepper!

i dont know precisely, where you live,.but going off of a random rochester zip code of 14605,.the nearest sonic locations are listed below:

309 miles to:

4247 oregon pike
ephrata, pa 17522
(717)859-3710

or

850 crossings blvd
morgantown, pa 19520

Well normally I'd leave a thing like this alone, but since Vancouver beat Dallas last night to end the series, I should say

Go Vancouver!

Ok now back to the thread. Vancouver is a paradise for anyone who likes bad roadways, crowded public transit, strict liquor laws, and great sushi. We also have some world-class skihills relatively close (about a 3 hour drive) and a mild ocean, sheltered by Vancouver Island. So if sailing is your thing then there it is.

Anyway now the Canucks can go on to lose to Anaheim in round two and put the city back to normal.

If that skating rink was near a big-ass arcade with a rollar coaster simulation ride and other awesome ride games, then yes, I do believe that was the one.

Heheh...it would pour down every time we had to go there for an away game in high school...hours and hours in cold wet smelly muck - yech, indeed. My band director, my father, and many, many other people like to refer to it as "Sleaze-ville" because of that and its many...colorful establishments.

And during a normal college semester, I have to ride through it twice every few weeks to get from Lake Charles to Natchitoches.

I'm from Perth, which is the capital city of the state Western Australia. Smallish city, only two or three million I think. The city is wedged between the ocean of the West, and some hills on the East. The hills have a name, but we generally just call them 'the hills', so I don't know what it is. Let's see, we're famous as the only place in the world to have black swans...ummm...I'm not really sure about much else, as I consider it all normal and don't have much to compare it to...We're a lot smaller then Tokyo if it helps.
