Missing child found in shot croc
POSTED: 5:06 a.m. EDT, April 22, 2007

Story Highlights
• Crocodile shot during search for missing 9-year-old contained child's remains
• Witnesses say child had earlier tormented reptiles in park
• Police hold park keeper, who was absent at time of the attack

BEIJING, China (AP) -- A crocodile shot to death in south China during a search for a missing 9-year-old student was found to contain the child's remains, the official Xinhua News Agency said.
The crocodile was shot Saturday in a park in Beihai, a city in the Guangxi region, by investigators looking for the missing child. Investigators confirmed that human remains found in the reptile were that of the student, the report said.

The child, surnamed Liu, disappeared Friday after Liu and three other children climbed over the fence around a pool in the park that had been used to stage crocodile shows, Xinhua said.
"The children shot the animals with catapults and beat them with wooden sticks," the agency said. "One of the irritated crocodiles bit Liu's clothes and dragged him into water, where he was eaten by a swarm of crocodiles."

Snipers used pork to lure the reptiles from the pool on Saturday and shot the first one that crawled ashore, the report said.

No other details were given, and it wasn't immediately clear what would happen to the other crocodiles.

Local residents said the park's owner had hired a keeper for the crocodiles, but it was not clear why the man was not at the site when the students broke in, the report said.
The manager and the keeper were being held by police.

remember last year, there was a family of meerkats that were put down, because some stupid ass kid stuck its hand in and got bit. the mother insisted the meerkats be tested for rabies which involved killing them rather than adminster the neccesary injections to the child.

i'm not a big believer in 'survival of the fittest', but sometime nature just jumps up and holds a big neon sign.

as a kid it always seemed obvious to me that fences and railings were there for a reason. it also seemed cruel to hit any animal without provication. and failing that i never approached an animal i wasn't invited to.

and if simple stupid little old me could fucking put 2 and 2 together without the need of parental intervention (which was always on standby as it should be), then those kids can, quite frankly, go to hell.

and why were they shooting the crocks? sound like they should have shot the other kids that got away.

Always the same with these stories. The took a risk and that was result.

The eaten one deserved it but I also think the people who encourage that should be responsible. Just shows he wasn't any better than the crocs in the same shoes as nature.

Even if a kid is the kind of miserable little shit to do things like beat animals with sticks and such, they should at least know better than to mess with freaking crocodiles.
  1. It's bigger than you.
  2. It's got a really big mouth.
  3. The really big mouth in question is full of nasty big pointy teeth!
  4. It thrives in the water, whereas you FAIL.
  5. It is fully aware of everything listed above.
At what point did parts of the human race lose their instinctual ability to recognize a more powerful predator?

Oh come on, give him some credit.

In my opinion, he was a very mature and social being, for realizing that our civilization is suffering from over-population and needs to rethink its hunting strategies, should it ever wish to prevail.

Obviously, he saw that one crocodile was hardly enough to nurture all of the zoo's visitors. Hence his brave sacrifice, which - granted - only lessened the problem a small bit, but still set a clear signal and showed the way for things to come. Also, he gave even the last one of those nature loving people around a solid reason for making another important handbag out of that croc ad gloriam civilization.

I hate to be this obvious
but people being bitten by

crocs or gators or just
animals in general especially

dangerous ones, happens a little
too often for my liking.

it's like,

MOM: oh my poor little Johnny got snipped by your parrot

Neighbor: Wow! How did that happen?

MOM:Well you see he put his finger in...

Neighbor: What?!? What the hell did he go and do that for?
Not only did i warn him, but it's in a cage for a reason

MOM: No way are you blaming this on my sweet little boy...

Neighbor: You bet your ass lady! The bird was just doing
what birds do. And was getting along fine before your jerk of a son ...

MOM: That does it.... We're suing!

Now that we're no longer threatened by packs of wild dogs and lions and such, and our abilities have gone more towards the mental instead of physical, this is the course evolution is taking: weeding out those stupid enough to mess with crocodiles.

Yes, yes, then the poor
creature that was just doing what

animals do has to pay for

the negligence of the 'smarter being'
it's all beans and poppycock.

Was no one stopping these children from tormenting the crocs? I certainly had the sense not to taunt a crocodile into eating me when I was 9, but if I hadn't, my parents would have stopped me, and I wouldn't have been allowed to climb into a crocodile pit by anybody, either.

Long live natural selection. We as the human race can devolve into all the beings of litigation we like, because natural selection is going to keep doing it's job and eventually we'll get there. Evolution will only allow us to evolve to stupid for so long before it takes another turn. I'm happy for it to do it's work at its own pace... even ifthat is one 9 year old at a time.
Luminous beings are we... not this crude matter.
