for me, im somewhat of a semi-hardcore gamer. If something is new, and I really, really want it,.then I will get it right then. Most of the time, I take a wait-and-see approach to see how successful it will be. Usually, I will wait for the price to drop considerably before i buy the system.
As far as games, If its something I really like, I will get it right away. Usually, I will wait for it to go to "greatest hits/platinum" status..where it only costs me $20.00.
Most of the time I like to bargain hunt for games and systems.
I have gotten some pretty good deals in my time from retailer discount bins and garage sales:
Dreamcast system w/ 2 controllers:..... $20.00 at pawn shop (circa 2001)
Final Fantasy (NES): ........... $1.00 church bazaar (circa 2002)
Metroid:(NES) ................ $1.00 church bazaar (circa 2002)
N64 system ...................... $25.00 pawn shop (circa 2001)
Tony Hawks Underground 2 (ps2) ............. $1.99 Best Buy (circa 2007)
Castlevania-Curse of Darkness (ps2) ....... $7.99 Circuit City (circa 2006)
Mortal Kombat-Deception (ps2)........... $7.99 Circuit City (circa 2006)
Sega Genesis 3 system ...................$19.99 Kaybee Toys (circa 1998)
Atari Jaguar system ................$25.00 Venture store (before they went bankrupt-circa 1997)
