Here is a thread for daily responses to the strips, if you want to make them!

Strips are at: http://www.lanceandeskimo.com/lance

Say anything you want: comment on the plot, mock the quality of the art, complain that the lettering is sloppy, ponder who is the worst pirate, etc.

The only thing I'm ambivalent about is predictions. On the one hand, I love to know what I've made people THINK will happen (especially if it's wrong). On the other, even though I've already planned out what I'm going to do so there's very little chance a prediction could affect it, I don't want people who guess correctly to claim that I stole their idea. So maybe if you want to make a prediction you do it in a thread which I don't look at.

This one I will look at!

First topic for discussion: Is making this post a desperate cry for attention?
Second: Did I spell "desperate" right?

From today's episode, i'm glad to see that Krys's scary character's page picture comes from her making "air-quotes" rather than doing a frightening "COMIN TA GITCHA!" kind of thing that i had imagined--even if it means she's neglecting the sails.

Though, now that my "comin ta gitcha" myth has been debunked, I can reflect on how Eskimo's recruitment of Lance can perhaps be seen as through the most amiable "press-gang"ing ever!

Some of the details on the noses seem to be missing on some of the characters. No colour.
I think the man at the end was dreaming the whole thing up.

Color. Color color color.

I could say that it's a personal preference to do b&w instead of color and in some ways, it is. I don't really mind lack of color in a comic, and I did the original L&E storys in b&w (well, pencil).

The bottom line though is that color takes a long time to do. As it is, it takes me about 1.5-2 hrs to draw a page (1 hour to pencil, about 45 minutes to ink/clean up). Doing a page of color (as I did the other day) takes more like four hours (and that was only one large panel, and I totally shirked when it got to the background). If I were going to do the comic in color, I could only do about one a week instead of one a weekday. Because I'm impatient to get the story moving along, I'd much rather do it this way. I am totally willing to sacrifice quality of art for story (which might also explain the missing detail).

On the other hand, I do care about art to some extent--I wouldn't be happy doing the time-saving mix-and-match-stock-panels thing (which I did consider a few years ago) since I love laying out the page in different ways, and trying to use the space and camera angles interestingly. (Also, I guarantee the art quality will improve over time. Even though I've been drawing Lance and Eskimo for years, it's been awhile since I was doing regular comics with them and I've changed their looks somewhat, so I'm still not totally there with the quality and consistency.)

That said, there will be occasional splashes of color. I mentioned I just did a page of color the other day. That was the cover for the second storyline, which will debut in--oh, about two weeks, I think. (The current comics, the "Lance and Eskimo Set Sail for Adventure" set, are kind of a character-development mishmash/prelude to what's going to happen in the next story.) I think I will try to do a color cover for every new storyline.

I'm liking it a lot. I think I'll just redirect my site to that comic since I've given up on the whole updating thing. I'm sorry I havnt come by to say anything but today's comic was the first one that really gave me a good snicker and I wanted to make note of that.

Just incase there's a test later, or something.

Maybe it's a CD-ROM. You know, a WMV file or something.

The new logo for the front page fills me with fear and trepidation.

Also, the border needs to be aliased. Or anti-aliased. Whatever the cool kids are doing these days.

This all sounds exciting. I liked the one I saw; I'm going to wait about a month before looking at any more. I am generally impatient and like to have lots of contect to catch up on.

yeah, I prefer a bunch of comics all at once to one a day too--that's why I love finding an established comic and reading all the archives in one day. I always tell myself I'll wait a few months and then catch up on the dailies, but I'm always too impatient. smile.gif Actually, I think L&E might be one of those comics that is better that way, since any given day's punchline might be kind of "eh" but overall they will form a story arc (I promise!)

(cough, cough, Haster Linkletter, Viking Podiatrist has been going since last July & has over 140 bite-sized episodes with several story arcs)

Um, now that I look at it more closely, not really. But the outline is a good deal bolder than anything else on the page.

On the subject of Chefelf's secret mystery gift, maybe it was a VHS tape in a square box. And the extra space in the box is a secret compartment that contains a lightsaber, or an autographed picture of Chewbacca, or that necklace from Lord of the Rings. Just guessing.

Woah; I didn't see that coming!

Never has an off-screen point/thinking-they're-talking-about-something-else lead to such a frightening character introduction. Still, I feel they may escape with their lives...I hope!

Perhaps I mis-interpreted the flow, i thought it went like this (paraphrasing cuz i'm using a computer i'm not good with so i can't have the comic & message sidebyside!):

Eskimo: I guess there's competition for cutest pirate! (she says, seeing Lance, whom Krys has suggested that she thinks is cute; thus I thought her statement meant, "Lance is a competitor for cutest pirate")

Lance: Yes, over there (pointing at another incredibly cute pirate that noone else had yet seen, off stage-left)

(The comic continues, the focus becoming the pirate-girl introduced by Lance's non-sequitor).

FIN!

If my interpretation is wrong (& Eskimo was trying to make Lance aware of off-screen competitor) then my comments make no sense!

Also I was unable to read her ship's name, despite squinting a bit. Set sail for mystery!
