Really? blink.gif

I forgot there was a 2006 re-release... blushing.gif

Haha! You really don't know Lucas well if you thought he wouldn't pass up the chance to release the same crappy "restored" movie three times in two years!

If you buy the new "2 disc sets" you get a copy of the 2004 edition PLUS the "unaltered version" as a "bonus" for the first ("and only" claims StarWars.com) time. Of course back in 1995, they said that was the last time you'd ever get to own the original Star Wars trilogy at home, but there you go... wink.gif

Apparently the "2005 limited edition" (which was identical to the 2004 edition, just in a different cheap cardboard box, minus the bonus disc) didn't sell well (you can still find copies pretty easily in most stores where I live and of course order online, but why would you want it?).

Rumor has it that they created the 2006 set not only to cut into the sale of bootlegs of the originals, but also to sweeten the deal since nobody was going to buy the 2004 edition a third time, and because the 2005 set had disappointing sales returns.

Apparently the 2006 set was also a disappointment, which delayed indefinately the much rumored 30th anniversary "mega box set" that supposedly was going to feature massive alterations to all the movies (the only confirmed change was the much ballyhooed all-CG Yoda in TPM).

Sorry for the rant, but... yes, back to the 2006 "limited edition" re-release....

Yep, it included the original theatrical editions (sadly, non-anamorphic, but hey, the quality is slightly better than the laserdisc bootlegs out there, which is ironic because it was a transfer done from 1993 laserdisc MASTER TAPES, and while it has the home video soundtrack mix... it has the original '77 crawl for Star Wars BEFORE it was "episode iv: a new hope") and if you care, an xbox demo for "lego star wars ii"

It was a "limited edition release" set to end Dec. 31, 2006, but most stores I've been to still have copies in the bargain bin.

It's probably pretty cheap on amazon.com right now, go check it out!

(sell your worthless 2004/2005 sets, you can always re-order the bonus disc for less than $10 off amazon seperately).
