Yeah. Well the thing is, introducing Blofeld wasn't such a bad deal on its own. It's trying to replicate word for word scenes from a film that make the reference lame. Referencing pop culture is actually pretty tricky; you can't just be doing it to show that you've seen something, especially something obscure. Folks doing that are usually just trying to show how hip or clever or well-read they are, and they're quite boring. The trick to pop culture referencing is to do something slightly new with it, or at least to make it the set-up to or punchline of a joke. And by that I mean a joke not directly about the pop culture subject.

A good primer Bond might have utilised, before his untimely death, would have been THE SIMPSONS. While often they go too far with a reference, becoming the crowd that try to show how clever they are, a lot of the time they're spot-on (a great pair of examples appear in the episode 22 SHORT FILMS ABOUT SPRINGFIELD: the cops discussing McDonald's vs Krusty's is a great PULP FICTION parody, while the by-the-numbers parody of the hillbilly torture scene from the same film (itself a parody of DELIVERANCE) is weak). At their best you can see the difference between what they do and what the SCARY MOVIE types were doing. At their worst they're still better than Bond's recent efforts.

And if you can't see the difference, then you don't get it. So don't do it.

The other issue: it's generally bad form in these collaborative stories to kill any of the characters. Usually it's done by guys who don't like the ideas the other people are coming up with, or guys who just like messing things up. If you understand improv at all, you'll understand why it's pretty much impossible to keep a story going when someone wants to hijack it all the time.

Oh well. Looking forward to either seeing what Jane's come up with, or to the next one of these. I'm sorry I didn't even know it was going on until it was almost over.

PS: Spoon, sadpenis is no longer viewable, so "Sometimes a Cigar" wins by default.

Sorry. blushing.gif

Perhaps the lights could go out in Cynthia's flat due to my "shocking" death. wink.gif

PS: Jane, I was tempted to give you some real hooters, New Orleans style, but I'm shit at drawing symmetrical boobs. Maybe one of these days we can put MG on the job.

Now that wouldn't exactly be a problem, because I really do have large boobs. I'm not quite sure what you mean by "New Orleans style", though.
Check out my crappy drawings!

Bond! ohmy.gif You did it ~ you are no longer Rain Man! See, that wasn't so hard, was it?

You've made a panel that follows the panel that preceeded it and... it goes with the tone of the rest of the comic. Well done. I'm very proud of you.

Also, you've given me a chance to draw this -

- which is great.

As for giving Jane a fantastic set of breasts, if she should turn out to be a recurring character, I'll see what I can do. Maybe Trent can develop an attraction to the cute pirate girl who lives in Cynthia's apartment block or something (otherwise he might get jealous of Jenkins, who looks like he's in with Cynthia). I can't say I'm exactly sure what "New Orleans style" means either though - is it the home of the famed "Hooters" franchise or something?

Waaaait, boob-squishing is okay but monkey humping isn't? tongue.gif

Come on, the two things are completely different.

While Cynthia wasn't entirely impressed with Trent doing that, she is not likely to be traumatised by the experience. However, getting a certain monkey body part in your ear of all places would be so awful, it'd be in a league all of its own. Makes me squirm just thinking about it. mellow.gif

Besides, it was an accident in the dark and Trent apologised.

All in all, a rather unfair comparison. dry.gif

I'm giving myself special dispensation again with regards to that rule about one panel at a time. But if it stuffs up anyone's plans for their own panel, feel free to ignore it and carry on from an earlier one.

Oh yeah. I also remembered something else about the breast squishing/monkey humping comparison. The monkey humping panel also LOOKED revolting. I mean, it was a really really gross sight.

Anyway, here's another panel.

Also, I wonder where Barend is. I hope he's okay.

So far every panel I've written has been a non-sequiter, so I guess that's gonna be my thing. Feel free to ignore this.

Two words Jane: Mardis Gras. A third word: Beads.

And four words you've probably heard every Mardis gras since you discovered your enormous talent:

"Show us your teats!"

So no, I didn't mean topless, but I was thinking of giving you a giant rack and a "Girls Gone Wild" t-shirt.

So anyway, does this mean Bond survived the blast? I suppose the circuit flipped and he got off lucky. But lucky for us, Jane is thorough. Also note I accepted the overt challenge cited above.

PS: That is the last time I draw that bathroom.

It does look rather painstaking.

And also, I think that oughta do the job. cool.gif

Actually, I don't think it really matters if there's any continuity any more. Nobody's shown any interest in revealing what Jenkins and Cynthia found in the loot or doing something with the alien plot thread. Although, I did get a comment from SpoonPoetic and while I thought it was an unfair criticism and debated it, I should probably be pleased she noticed my work.

Maybe we could just make random pictures that amuse us instead. I did a concept drawing for Jane's character recently as well - maybe I could put that up. Although, I have to say that your one is very cool, Civilian.

We could always start another one. I have an opening panel idea that's sure to get Jane's attention (and it's not moe boobs).

I like it best when the panels contain jokes, and then a setup for someone else to finish how they would like to within the continuity.

Civ: I've never seen the airbrush tool look nice until you started posting here. tongue.gif And the foreshortening on Bathroom Bond's left foot is pretty good, as well.

Most everybody else has also done some great art, of course. I don't mean to ignore you! I'll try to get around to contributing some more, as well.

Edit: JYAMG: I think that perhaps a woman's private parts being violated can easily be considered just as awful as a man's ear canal being violated by a monkey if one is viewing it from the perspective of being a woman rather than a man, but it is generally considered a bit less graphic than open aural intercourse. tongue.gif

Hey, hey, I'm getting to it! I have classwork again now!

...And I get very shy about drawing when someone else is in the room...

Also, HOORAY for impalement, but damn that pirate woman looks like a freaky dominatrix. unsure.gif

The monkey isn't of a high enough mental or moral capacity to know that humping a man's ear is wrong. But dudes should know grabbing someone's boobs is totally wrong, and could get him killed! Besides, I was just poking fun. As evidenced by the " tongue.gif " at the end of my "unfair criticism," and a light-hearted tone. But you seem quite offended by my teasing, and claim that it's unfair to compare the two - so maybe I should be offended by your lack of respect towards a woman's private parts. *shrug*

And I agree with Slade. I like comedy more than a panel-by-panel cartoon action movie. Plots are fine, but I enjoy it more when the fun is put before plot advancement.
