Those spam-bots are becoming quite a nuisance lately, aren't they?
Oh sure, the mods can delete their posts where ever they pop up, but that won't solve the problem.

Sadly though, I can't really think of a good solution, try as I might. So if any of you can, this be the place where you may share your wisdom with us. Just hit "Reply", you know the drill.

I don't know. I've been working overtime around here to keep their post volume BALEETED. Chef's the man to talk to. Hopefully he'll have some idea, but when I asked him recently, he told me that the best way to get rid of them is to upgrade the board. Except that broke for some reason.

I have a solution if it is possible on the board to restrict and examine new users before they can actually post. I mean to speak to them first to check whether if it is a bot or person.

Unfortunately I can't see that working for long if the accounts are signed up by people.

I thought of a new name for automated spammers.
They should be called The Spamulators

Well at least we've got some creative input...

Why not have one of those text-in-an-image generator things you guys love so much? You know, the ones that ask you to type what you see in the image, and then think you're a bot and shut down your computer when you mistake the "l" for a "1".

I thought the register page did have a generator.

Another spamulator named Burn from the musical review to my brick wall oven thread and now to Hoffman's thread with three X's? What a stupid name to call a thread. Unless it related to discussion in that thread. Now another named Beckylue, and the same threads before seems to be a common target.

My vision, I dont know if it will work but if I can find one of these bots, take out of the spam modules and add an IRC module so I can post and read posts from a messaging client as realtime as possible.

I am going to message one of these spammers to see what happens. I am already prepared to receiving a 419 message.

They're always good for a laugh. Suppose its just a matter of hoping they've got one for Invision boards.

I know of some boards that require you answer a question before you can activate your account. Generally something like, "How many months are there in a year?" as part of the registration form. I think it's better at stopping bots than typing in a string of letters and numbers.

That'll only delay 'em, until the bot-coders notice the changes.

Are these spambots at all? Not some (human) cunts who register, post their shit then disappear into oblivion?

I wouldn't consider people who go to such lengths just to post ads that nobody really reacts to human, but I guess we can never really tell. It looks a tad too automated, so maybe there's just someone involved when it comes to signing them up.
