*grumble*

I suppose so...though some of the scarier bits are just walking round when it's deserted...though I can quickly get fed up with that, especially if I'm looking for the dealy to get to the next part. Likewise in 1213...though what's more annoying is that after getting past the thingy in ep 2, all is says is "to be concluded", and then I keep getting killed straight away in the beginning of the 3rd ep.

X Days a Sauerkraut has less of that, cause you don't die that often, but is still scary. Then there's jumping out at you monsters, whether it's a corpse not being dead, or like in 7DAS, when you'd be wandering round on the last day, and when you'd go up to a door you just knew the welder was about to walk through it. Getting killed isn't scary as such, cause then you jsut have to reload and skip through all the stuff you'd already done, and that isn't scary...thinking you will be killed is, though.

Oh...likewise, needing to stop and read the walkthrough makes it less scary...though I got through 6das mostly without...wish I had one for 1213, though

I'm tired of people complaining about the Welder chase scene from 7DAS, saying it "broke the cardinal rule of chase scenes" by having the Welder randomly appear in doorways and giving you a limited number of shots.

Just a few observations: first, if you are complaining about the Welder chase scene at all, you're a sissy. Seriously folks. The game lets you save anytime, anywhere, and you're still going to complain about getting killed once in a while?

Second, it's not even all that hard to avoid getting killed. If you're shaking in your booties just thinking about walking over to that door and opening it, here's a tip for you: STAND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROOM, AWAY FROM ALL THE DOORS, AND WAIT FOR THE WELDER TO WALK IN. Very simple really. If he came through a door you didn't need to go through, just walk through the door you did. If he did, shoot him in the face and proceed calmly and quickly through the door. Rinse and repeat.

Third, has anybody EVER used up all of their shots just walking around the ship? I haven't. I don't know anybody who has.

And last, that chase scene makes 7DAS the scariest of all of the games in my humble opinion. Yes, Trilby's Notes was creepier, 5DAS had a lot of atmosphere (and 6DAS wasn't really all that scary), but nothing made me AFRAID to play like the chase scene in 7 Days. After finding out the Welder was going to be roaming the ship looking for me, a wimpy little doctor (admittedly fake) with a pellet gun that barely stops him and has limited shots, I had to shut down the game and play something else for a bit.

The only thing that even came near as close to that fright level was the first time I played through Notes and randomly found myself chained in the basement of the 5 Days house. I was already a little freaked that I couldn't move, and in walks John DeFoe, slowly and methodically heading towards me. I was sure that I was dead.

I know this was long, but I feel that this 7 Days scene needs defending.

And anyway, if you are pussified because of that chase scene, then you can shell out $5 for the SE where there's a warning if the Welder's nearby. That is, if you have a credit card, which I personally don't.

Well, I wasn't complaining about that chase scene, I jsut thought it was scary...but having a warning thing would take the tension right out, wouldn't it? Although having him random appear was a bit odd...I mean, he's chasing me in one place, I go in the elevator, get out, and he comes out of a door on that level...yeah he's a supernatural thingy and all...maybe if he was transparent, and floated through things that weren't antennaes or something...

Personally, I don't think I ever used the gun on him at all, though.

IMHO, 7DAS was the best...and the chase scene was very memorable.

I remember using the gun but that's only good for stopping him for a few moments, you can't walk past him or anything.

Au contraire, mon fucking frere. I have tested shooting DeFoe several times and as long as he is shocked, you can walk right by him. It's simply a matter of shooting him when he's close enough to you, giving you enough time to scoot on by.

Of course, the other solution is to run away from him like an 8-year-old girl in the direction you don't want to go. Then re-enter the room and pray he doesn't appear there again. This method works well for grandmas and paraplegics who can't actually use the mouse at all.

When I first played it, I got killed many times at these scenes, simply because you can't change your mind after you gave Somerset the order to do something, like use the door. While he's walking there, the Welder enters from the same door, and you're already bashing your head against the wall because you can't tell the fucker to turn around and run. Apparently he'd rather get killed than change his mind.

Actually, I'm really not that fond of this type of interface.

I agree, that is slightly annoying, although all you really have to do to avoid said wall-bashing is to stay in the middle of the room, wait to see where he comes from, and THEN make your choice.

But yeah, I'd have to be pretty committed to open that door with John DeFoe in between us. I bet that's what Somerset was thinking, too:

"I may be nothing but a splatter of bloody goo on the floor, but by God, that door will be OPEN."

Well...don't you tell him to move to a spot closer to the door, and then when he gets there, if the welder doesn't jump out at you, then go in?

The scariest moment was my first nightmare in the Chzo series, where I played 7days (the first game I played) and Adam said "We have a new Captain" then John comes and kills him with one blow, that was pretty scary. After that the nightmares started to seem less and less scary, but still well made.

You know, to me the music was much scarier in 5days and 7days then it was in notes and 6 days. I think Yahtzy should continue ripping off RPG Maker.

7DAS had some Depeche Mode music in it on the last day which made me very happy (well, at the moment of playing, it was a significant factor in maintaining my scared level).

I knew that music sounded familiar, it was like when I was playing SCMRPG and I heard one piece of music which I couldn’t identify until I found out from reading the music file. It was “Sweat Dreams”. Without the words, most songs sound very different.

5DAS: The scene in the bathroom with Jimmy as the Welder was nerve-wracking because you only had a little time to think, and the bathtub scene made my heart jump! I was kind of scared of the shower curtain for a while after that. Also, reading the descriptions of the portrait in the dining room each day was pretty creepy...

7DAS: The chase scenes were okay, but probably only because I had the volume turned all the way down, and was saving continuously in places of safety. Also, I had taken a nice, deep breath before starting that day, and no Welder jumped out from the door I wanted to go into. Dr. Taylor's room was freaky, but more disturbing/disgusting than scary. I kind of giggled and gasped at the same time when the torso fell out, but I was confused when I saw Serena come out of and go back into the right door at the same time in that scene. (Glitch?)

TN: I was pretty freaked out at the dark world the first few times it appeared, but after a while, it was kind of like, "Doodoodoo, past the rotting corpses, lalala..."... probably because I had the sound off. (Yes, wimpy, but hey, I'm only 15.) The flickering appearance of the dark world during the conversation with Siobahn was startling, as well as the sudden flash of the Tall Man in front of the bathroom door.

6DAS: Janine's possessed eyes were pretty scary, plus the flashing walls at that time, and the privacy screen scene in the beginning. Also, the cloning facilities had an eerie feel to them as well, and I just felt really sorry for the Trilby clone staring at the tubes. But, it was nice that the Trilby clones had Trilby's memories and characteristics (ie the grandpa Trilby in Chzo/the last clone).

I knew I was forgetting something. The painting was creepy, although it was really more like something that gives you an uneasy feeling when you think about it afterwards.

The first thing I think is just a "random thing that makes no sense but is kind of creepy" horror movie thingy sort of thing.
