"WyvernQuest is a Single-Player Infinite Duration Online Role Playing Game (SPIDORPG) that I've been working on for many moons." (further details)

It finally has all the features I wanted to declare it the Betatest version. Stop by & give it a shot if you're bored. wub.gif

Did I mention it's infinitely long?

well, technically it'll probably stop working when it overflows the Integer class. I've tested it at over level 10,000,000 though, so that won't be anytime soon wink.gif

I am so Betatesting! And if you need a little help with upkeep/just crunching out new features or something, you can let me know and I'll try to help. I was forced into basic web fluency last quarter due to my web design class.

4:28pm edit: The display is a little awkward during battles. It says I hit a monster for 1 damage after x rounds, but the monster has 0/4 hp and subsequently dies. I think damage needs to be a little clearer. I can also dual wield and wear a buckler? Perhaps because it's small, it can be worn on the upper arm or something, and larger shields will replace my dagger when I find them?

Hmm... And maybe along down the road, you can do things like generate a random dungeon to explore, or have people give you quests in town or something?

I have more! I just killed a thing, and somehow it killed me at the same time. I thought we exchange blows, not hit one another at the same time? Either way, I feel cheated.

Offense: 236 Defense: 217 Hitpoints: 0/268
Offense: 190 Defense: 140 Hitpoints: 0/166
After 3 rounds, * You hit the Mothxouthlock for 13 damage!
The Mothxouthlock hits you for 32 damage!

You died!
Revive me, Wizardguy! (1/2 gold/exp)

You owe me 805 xp and 640 gold! tongue.gif

Well, what good is experience to you when you're dead?

Oops! I missed your earlier comment. as you noticed, the combat is simultaneous (if you both kill eachother, you're both dead)

as for your earlier comment, it skips over rounds where you are not injured. When it says "After 7 rounds*", you can mouse-over the asterisk & it shows you the rolls in those 'skipped' rounds. During those rounds you might have hurt it or not, but it didn't hurt you. Once you've been hurt it tells you what has happened, so you can decide if you still want to keep fighting.

& yup, stuff like quests would be neat, are features I'd like to add (I have some ideas about what rewards would be, other than just gold/exp). Dungeons would be neat too (because they could be a different kind of challenge--patience & mazey stuff)

It would be nice to be able to press enter on the login screen and have us log in, as opposed to only being able to click on the login button.

The website is also a little ungainly, but easily fixed with a little different CSS.

I feel very self-conscious and somehow too dorky being the only one posting here. Can someone else please play Lefty's game and mess with it?

I played it, I liked it, it's cute. However, I got kinda bored with it after a while because it's just the same stuff over and over again, there's no goal or anything. But you already said you'd be hopefully putting in some more game elements. I love how you can pick the cute little pixelled hair styles, and that a girl is no different from a guy except oh look, a bra! tongue.gif Fun way to pass some time.
I am writing about Jm in my signature because apparently it's an effective method of ignoring him.

neat, thanks for taking a look.

I find that if you track down the wyverns (their castle is somewhere in any country where you get a message about them flying overhead) & beat them for the magic equipment, that makes the game a lot more strategic/engaging (if you've got Water equipment, going to Desert maps to beat up on enemies more easily).

& yeah, adding other 'minigames'/subquests/different goals other than moving further/getting better stuff would also make it more of a diversion.

I tend to not bother with Wyverns most often, because their equipment is only good against one other terrain type, and the benefits you get are quickly shot as you travel to places that sell better equipment. I think maybe it would be more useful if you perhaps made Wyvern equipment a few levels higher than the rest of the area?

I usually fight the Wyverns whenever I see a castle. I like how they don't appear randomly. smile.gif

I'm totally for dungeons and quests, though. It's a fun game, but seems kind of repetitive in terms of areas -- but not enough to bore me. smile.gif

yeah, I've thought about having the Magic Equipment start a level or 2 ahead of the country you find it on. As you get to later countries (100+) the amount your equipment goes up becomes less significant, thus the x1.5 bonuses you get from magic equipment becomes a much bigger factor--also, if you fight a Wyvern on a non-forest country, the equipment you get is useful in that country (good for building up a pile of cash to go to the next country with).

I have the "show a player's picture when you click on their name" thing about 70% done. it'll pretty cool to be able to see people's characters (or "wyvatars") even though its just their haircolor/haircut/skintone choices--but i didn't make it past the step up from "show them naked" to "show them wearing all their EQ" last night before i got sleepy.

Do you want anyone to perhaps spend a little bit of time buffing your graphics, or do you want to do everything yourself/keep the graphics side of the game very basic? If it's the former, I could guarantee an increase in graphics by 8 bits, given the sprite-sheets and a bit of time.

I'm sorry. I'm probably trying to butt in too much on your project. I just think it's really, really cool, and I can really appreciate the amount of work that goes into getting something like this running smoothly.

The names on the the Players List page are now clickable, & they show you the picture of their character!

it seems like the "Ponytail" haircut is pretty popular, & the "Lanky" haircut works for guys & girls (as was the intent)
