Well, since I actually value the opinions of people on these forums, I thought I'd post some pages from what could potentially be developed into a webcomic. Also, I wanted to show people what's possible using layers in GIMP to color images and add speech bubbles, since it is a pretty economic alternative to using photoshop or other similar programs.

Any constructive criticism would be welcome, whether or not you'd like to comment on the suitability of the art style or the fonts, or the wisdom of using yet another cute anthropomorphic character in a webcomic.

Well, first off, here's an image that was drawn on paper, scanned, then edited using paint. The results, are not so great.

And here's the same image edited using gimp. Definitely an improvement.

And here again, is the before:

And the after:

So there we go. Well, these are my first attempts at creating comics which are heavily reliant on computer software. As I said, any comments or criticisms would be welcome.

The only thing that I can find out of place is the penguin in the first and more in second picture. It looks like it was slightly stuck on. Maybe to round up, adjust or add more shadows to the penguin to make it look a part of the picture.

Also the red colour on the couch looks a little blurry than crispy compared to the non coloured picture.

The shading artifacts on the door and the enhancements look perfect to me.

Just what I see but I hope I didn't offend you.

Not at all. That's exactly the kind of objective criticism I was looking for. I'm not sure what happened to the color in the couch; I think in part it's a distortion that happened because the image was resized from 1275 x 1650 pixels to 618 x 800 by photobucket; but upon examining the original image it looks like there is a little blurriness as well (although not nearly as severe), so I'll have to play around and see if I can fix that. It looks like what is being blurred are the texture details on the couch, so, it might be that details can't be that fine at that resolution.

I'll work on the penguin. I actually had a really hard time shading him for some reason. I think that the midtone color that I picked is too dark. He might need to be a light gray or even a blue instead.

Anyway, thank you again for two very helpful criticisms.

Hmm... the penguin should be a tad darker, in my opinion. And maybe you should blurr the shadows a little more. I like those cute, cuddly pet thingies in comics, so that's a plus. Minus would be, that he doesn't appear very special to me - I know I shouldn't criticize characters, but I just couldn't get around comparing it with Mutant Penguin.

Well, at least you like the idea of the penguin. But, again, this is a helpful criticism for me, because I want to have characters that seem interesting and not generic, so thank you for an insight that I wouldn't have had on my own.
