Oh, yeah, about the mansion: They didn't acquire it, they just built their "base" around the ruins. How it got that deep under the earth however is beyond me.

Guess I didn't phrase that well. I was wondering how and when they got the rights to build around the ruins. Surely the secret agency Tribly works for would have kept an eye on the place? Unless they order got their hands on it long after the secret organisation went belly up?

Then again, if the mansion got buried under a landslide (in an open countryside, hum) the order could just purchase the land and not tell anybody about their excavations. Which, it seems, is what they did.

Lucky thing for them, that dirt tsunami.

That's what I was expecting from 6DAS: some kind of closure on Trilby's personal saga.
- Did he survive the near-death experience in TN or die shortly after?
- Did he ever encounter the Prince again?
- What did the Prince do in all the time between TN and 6DAS, now that he was roaming around the world?
- What happened to Sibhoawhateverhernamewas?
- What happened to the hotel? And the stump?
- Did Trilby continue working for that secret agency, and if so, on what?!?
- How did the idol end up being blasted into space? And when exactly?

From what the older Trilby person that Redrobey McSomerset was talking to said, it seems that Trilby continued to work with the STP, researching Chzo for a while. According to the note in 7 Days, Trilby convinced NASA to launch his little casket/box thing with the idol inside into space about... 4? months after TN.

QUOTE
- How did those slasher movies about 5DAS and TN get made? Did Trilby have any input into them?

I doubt it. The author the government hired probably took what was reported on the news, what Simone said, what Jim said (if he said anything at all), added some creative licence and Came up with a really strange and warped version of what the Defoe Manor Incedent was like. Then they probably based the movie off of that, creating something which was nowhere near what actually happened. That's a guess though, so if someone has a better idea, I'd love to hear it.

(Though, I'd seriously like to know if Trilby got a chance to watch these movies/read these books, and what he thought.)

QUOTE
...and, the million dollar question...
If the DeFoe mansion was above-ground in 5DAS, why was it deep underground in 6DAS?!?

The same reason that the stump from TN started asbove ground and ended up in the basement.

You know, I've been reading the last posts, and remembering the older ones, and it seems to me that some of you didn't ike the game because it didn't give the answers you expected about Trilby. But from where I stand, this tetralogy is not about him, it's about Chzo, and the game did indeed give me all the answers I wanted about THAT... you know, Trilbs is a great character, alright, but from the beginning this wasn't his story. It was John DeFoe's story, and later, Chzo's story. Trilby was only one of the people who got involved with the elemental, just like DeFoe himself (who, by the way, is a much more interesting character, if you ask me); ok, he was a key element in the story, but the true star was the evil entity all along. And that was handled just right. In the first game, that evil entity was John DeFoe, but we already had a hint that there was something deeper in him. Then in the second game, we got confirmation, but it wasn't until the third game that we learned about Chzo and the true scope of the Evil in question. I am not even sure that Yahtzee had already created Chzo in the first two games or if he thought that up only for the third game, but that is irrelevant. The fact is he tied everything up very nicely, and even created a "crescendo" in the series that only makes it all the more appealing.

But I'm losing my point here. What I really want to say is, this series isn't about Trilby, not in my point of view anyway; it's about Chzo, and it's 400-hundred-year-spanning scheme to get a new Prince. That's why I am not concerned about what happened to Trilby when he was not involved with Chzo, at least not for THIS tetralogy. And I sure hope, if there is to be another Trilby game in the future, that it is about his life before the DeFoe Manor Incident, or after sending the idol into space. Maybe a game starting with him sending the idol away and moving on to a completely different mission? Maybe a mission that was a consequence of the act of sending the idol away? That would be interesting...

And on a side note, I have a question for Yahtzee: have you ever read "The Crib" by Paul Kent? The way you handle the flashbacks in TN, showing all the steps of the idol back to its origin as a tree, well, it's very similar to what happens in that story. Noy that it makes it any less interesting, I was just wondering about your source of inspiration.

Oh, and about the movies: I don't think Trilby could be involved with them, because they are mentioned by Janine as being relatively recent, and not more than 150 years old...

Not familiar with it myself. The main inspiration for the flashback stuff was Eternal Darkness, the Gamecube game, as well as cinematic flashbackery in general.

It's mentioned in 6DAS that the STP encouraged a novelist to fictionalise Trilby and make him into a pop culture larger than life cult character, so that the fiction would become more widespread than the truth and make people eventually forget that Trilby was ever real. This would make it easier to conceal secret intelligence concerning his exploits, and it seemed to work. The films based on the novels were blockbuster hits that further muddied the trail. By 2189 Trilby has become like Robin Hood or King Arthur, in that it's no longer possible to separate myth from reality. We can infer from Janine's dialogue that her insistence that Trilby was real is an increasingly minority view.
As I walked through the valley of the shadow of death, I realised that it could do with a lick of paint.

Concerning a new Trilby-game, I'd think that one telling his story before DeFoe would be a good start. There wouldn't have to be any horror in it, would there. Maybe one where Trilboy tries to steal all kinds of important items. Show a bit why he thinks of himself as the Gentleman Thief and what he thinks in general. Well, of course throw in a couple easter eggs of the Tall Man appearing and slaughtering everyone or something like that.

One part I'm interested in Trilby's history is WHY he became a thief. Who was he as a little boy? Or did he grow up in the same looking clothes looking the same, except for size and always steal everything?

But if continuing the "horror"-style, that wouldn't be entirely too difficult either, now would it? Surely Trilbs has got into trouble with other criminals at some point. Or maybe getting chased by the Police. But I just hope we don't get to know, that Trilby was raised by foster parents, after his own parents sent him to Earth from Krypton.

All in all, Yahtz could craft us up a really challenging puzzle-game that would reveal a bit of Trilby. Or a better idea yet! A game where you would control AJ! Yes, that would be just brilliant. Oh well, that might ruin the whole mystery of AJ. 4 Days a Spy. He does have enough in common with Trilby to have his own game, right? Gets involved in DeFoe and doesn't reveal his name. (Screw you all if you find it out in the SE)

Personally I'd rather not have any further DeFoe/Chzo related stories. Neither with AJ or Trilby or whatever. That series is completed already and became sursatured with TN and 6DAS. If there must have another horror story following the TN events, then it's time to clean the blackboard and whip up new bad guys, new events and new rules to bring back the feeling of 5DAS, when everything was new, unknown and mysterious.

Also, I'm sure that trilbys agency isinvolved in more than just supernatural stuff, I'd love to see Trilby in an espionage thriller in russia or somewhere.

Although I really think the series is not completed at all, I agree that it's time for soemthing else. Chzo became so damn confusing, that any more probably would just blow our heads up.

I'd like however to see some adventures that take place in the Realm of Magick, with no relation to the happenings of the Chzo at all. Maybe a few brief cameos or something.

Like a guy (a random guy, not Trilby or someone like that) stranding by accident in the the Realm of Magick, trying to find his way out. May sound bland, but could actually quite fun if executed right.
