Floppydisk,
You’re wrong in saying Qui-Gon being an ‘old man’ puts him at a disadvantage vs. Maul.
Yoda hobbling around on a cane and being 800, 900 (I forget) yrs. old and still able to fend off Dooku when Anakin nor Obi-Wan (both a MASTER and in his PRIME at the time) proves that.
You only make your point IF you totally ignore the supernatural power of the Force... where it’s flat out said their true power comes from.
Like how they can lift massive objects with their minds and dodge lightning fast blaster fire with their swords.
Strength and Speed based on ‘skill in using the Force’ -regardless of their physical body’s condition/age.
Qui-Gon was a Jedi MASTER of this power.
That it absolute proof that Qui-Gon’s age is irrelevant vs. Maul being ‘younger’.
Palpatine being an ‘even older man’ than Qui-Gon in Epi. III and what he does proves that even more.

I don’t need to ‘bash you’ if you don’t call my well thought out comments ‘absurd’ again.
There’s a Jedi code. We don’t know the details of it but we can infer that it’s related to the Samurai Bushido code. So much about the Jedi is based on Samurai (and also clearly Arthurian Kights of Legend).
Double-teaming doesn’t fit that code of honor... yes even in battle.
We don’t know the details of it but as xenduck mentioned... lucas has said that Jedi are modeled after Japanese Samurai.
He probably didn't want to admit it, but lucas couldn’t deny it if he wanted to. The evidence alone is incontrovertible.
I thought all SW fans knew this?
It’s tremendously obvious from the Jedi’s stoic, dead calm mannerisms, Zen/Force concept, Eastern meditation, the style of real sword a lightsaber is closest to, the style of their fighting stances and swordplay, many of their hairstyles, names like Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jin, that the Japanese film The Hidden Fortress was the plot lucas (again admitted by lucas) ripped-off for the first SW film, etc...
It’s a fact beyond debate.
As for the debate of ‘would it be in a Jedi’s character to double team a single bad guy?’... I say it absolutely would be out of character and you say it wouldn’t.
Neither of us can ‘prove’ the other is wrong but my Samurai/Jedi evidence beats makes my case. BUT for my point I don’t need to prove they wouldn’t do it.
I only need to show ‘it was dumb’ in the movie. That it’s ‘not cool’ not that they’d ‘never do it’.
If lucas had half a brain he would have written the scene so that no honorable Jedi ever had the opportunity to ‘double team’ a lone bad guy eliminating the debate altogether.
Lucas has totally ruined the entire original mythology of what it means to be Jedi contradicting HIMSELF from the old to new trilogy so that alone means no one can say what a Jedi would/wouldn’t do anymore.
