QUOTE
“-Obi-Wan and Anakin didn't double up on Dooku - they may have tag-teamed, but the two of them didn't fight him together.-“

Tag-team vs. one man IS a double team. And since they didn’t actually ‘tag’ double team IS the more accurate phrase.

Yes it’s not ‘exactly’ at the same time but you see two boxers tag team vs. another guy and call it fair?
No.
And that’s why you don’t ever see that.

Dude, the reason you don't see that is because boxers are fighting for sport, not to save the lives of themselves and others. If it's to save the lives of everyone on the planet of Naboo, then I think that the Jedi would double team Maul. Besides, one guy was an old man, while the other was a young kid. Maul looked like he was at his fighting prime, and could have taken out either of them if it was one on one. (I have no proof of this other than that he looked pretty strong and young, therefore I assume that he's about 25[and before you try to bash me for this, consider that you have nothing to base your point of jedi/samuri on])

the jedi are based on samurai, lucas has said so himself. ill go more into detail if you like. but being and being based on are different things and the jedi do not adhere to the same code as samurai. i agree that dooku and maul were both double-teamed, and that is not very 'sporting'. but more than honour was at stake in those fights. it was made clear that maul was more than a match for any one jedi, as was dooku (what that means for the darkside being weaker i wont go into just now). the jedi felt they HAD to team-up to win and winning meant saving lives. maul attacked both jedi, they didnt both attack him. dooku was a master, would it be 'fair' for him to fight a knight or padawan alone?

Floppydisk,

You’re wrong in saying Qui-Gon being an ‘old man’ puts him at a disadvantage vs. Maul.

Yoda hobbling around on a cane and being 800, 900 (I forget) yrs. old and still able to fend off Dooku when Anakin nor Obi-Wan (both a MASTER and in his PRIME at the time) proves that.

You only make your point IF you totally ignore the supernatural power of the Force... where it’s flat out said their true power comes from.

Like how they can lift massive objects with their minds and dodge lightning fast blaster fire with their swords.

Strength and Speed based on ‘skill in using the Force’ -regardless of their physical body’s condition/age.

Qui-Gon was a Jedi MASTER of this power.

That it absolute proof that Qui-Gon’s age is irrelevant vs. Maul being ‘younger’.

Palpatine being an ‘even older man’ than Qui-Gon in Epi. III and what he does proves that even more.

Floppydisk wrote-
“-and before you try to bash me for this, consider that you have nothing to base your point of jedi/samuri on-“

I don’t need to ‘bash you’ if you don’t call my well thought out comments ‘absurd’ again.

There’s a Jedi code. We don’t know the details of it but we can infer that it’s related to the Samurai Bushido code. So much about the Jedi is based on Samurai (and also clearly Arthurian Kights of Legend).
Double-teaming doesn’t fit that code of honor... yes even in battle.

We don’t know the details of it but as xenduck mentioned... lucas has said that Jedi are modeled after Japanese Samurai.

He probably didn't want to admit it, but lucas couldn’t deny it if he wanted to. The evidence alone is incontrovertible.

I thought all SW fans knew this?

It’s tremendously obvious from the Jedi’s stoic, dead calm mannerisms, Zen/Force concept, Eastern meditation, the style of real sword a lightsaber is closest to, the style of their fighting stances and swordplay, many of their hairstyles, names like Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jin, that the Japanese film The Hidden Fortress was the plot lucas (again admitted by lucas) ripped-off for the first SW film, etc...

It’s a fact beyond debate.

As for the debate of ‘would it be in a Jedi’s character to double team a single bad guy?’... I say it absolutely would be out of character and you say it wouldn’t.

Neither of us can ‘prove’ the other is wrong but my Samurai/Jedi evidence beats makes my case. BUT for my point I don’t need to prove they wouldn’t do it.

I only need to show ‘it was dumb’ in the movie. That it’s ‘not cool’ not that they’d ‘never do it’.

If lucas had half a brain he would have written the scene so that no honorable Jedi ever had the opportunity to ‘double team’ a lone bad guy eliminating the debate altogether.

Lucas has totally ruined the entire original mythology of what it means to be Jedi contradicting HIMSELF from the old to new trilogy so that alone means no one can say what a Jedi would/wouldn’t do anymore.

I don't know about that.  If not for being his son, why is Vader so obsessed with finding Luke?  blink.gif

I think Master Hand... which seems a silly name... not that I can talk - has failed to grasp the reason for this forum. But I bow before his superior argument.

And as for Darth Vader searching for Luke - remember that Darth knew that the Force was strong with Luke - so he starts searching for him.

What a nice young man. Remind me to invite him to my next barbecue.

And the way he backed up his arguments astounded me... I was flabbergasted by his leaps of logic and superb syllogisms. Honestly, in the leadup to ROTS we are being inundated by one-day gushers.

You have much to learn about the Darkside yet, DarkSith!

You must give better arguments and give more respect to people who don`t like movies you love!

DarkSith, once I am on vacation, I plan on making counter arguments to some of those reasons! Especially if a list about ROTS is made! You could help me if you like.

Dark_Sith, welcome to the forums. Should you decide to mention anything specific about what "sucks" I would love to hear it. smile.gif
