What arrogance.

"this version will be longer and more detailed"?
"Drags point and click adventures into the 21st Century"?
"Expanded storyline with beginning, middle AND satisfying end!"?!?

Poor 5DAS: that short, undetailed, retro 20th century point'n'click adventure with no satisfying end. How fortunate somebody cares enough to bring it out of the shameful closet of 2D adventure games into the deep and meaningful world of 3D first person shooters. Let's see the welder go up against Trilby when he's got the gravity gun! Har!

Heh. I think the most telling aspect is that Yahtzee hasn't made any public statement about this (to my knowledge.) Probably waiting to see how it turns out in case he needs to distance himself from it. Very wise.

I'm surprised they haven't created a snazzy Flash website yet! Isn't that the first step to producing a computer game these days?

Perhaps this will apply to chase sequences as well. Back then, I played 7DAS first, because that was the first one I came across. I just loved those parts in the game (scared the shit out of me), and I missed them in 5DAS.

This is a bit OT, but I thought those chase scenes were awesome and scary as hell, I couldn't understand why some others apparently didn't like them.

I had another look at the post, I thought the Mansion hes put together (above) looked pretty damn good and reasonbly faithful to the original, so at least the guy behind it is trying to do a good job of it. Even if the mod doesn't get finished it might still be fun to explore the Defoe mansion in 3D.

Eek. There were chase sequences in Penumbra? I'm not the bravest SOB in the world. Once the lights went out, I left the room. I had to cut power to the house so I wouldn't have to go back in and turn the damn PC off.

Hahaha. Okay, maybe not that extreme. That actually looks like a pretty bloody good DeFoe Manor. Still, the proof will be in the pudding, as my Modern History teacher would put it. That guy is an absolute nut.

Ok, maybe I'm just a stupid arse fuckwit, but I don't get something: WHY are they making this?

5DAS was fullfilling on its own, I don't want to see it tampered with.

I also support Fornax's post about them being arrogant.

And besides, I'm sure that all they're going to add is more action to the game and lessen the dialogue and story elements. We'll probably see zombies running around the place and Simone, Philip, Jim, and Trilby must defend themselves with pistols and shotguns... dry.gif

Okay, I was going to address this in Thursday's update but since you've all started foaming at the mouth let me assure you that I do know about this project and I am closely involved with it. More detail later.
As I walked through the valley of the shadow of death, I realised that it could do with a lick of paint.

Going by the general trend of FPS plots.. maybe this game will go something.. like this:

It seems Simone, Philip, Jim and Trilby were unaware that the house they were breaking into used to be a secret laboratory where scientists from an amoral corporation developed a 'doorway' to Hell itself, unwittingly releasing a horde of demons, imps, archviles and insurance salesmen into this world. Led by an evil force masquerading as a little girl the infernal masses want to drain Earth's resources, convert the populace into a sexless masked police force to be used to conquer other dimensions and genetically modify cats and dogs to make them live peacefully together.
Trilby must use all his skills as a cat-burglar/physicist/marine to fight his way through the house to the gate and through it to the very shores of Hell, all the way battling the demonic horde as well as military commandoes, chain-smoking biker chicks and clones of Kim Jong Il.
Once at the gate, Trilby has to use an ancient artifact (shaped curiously like his hat) to close the portal. Along the way, Trilby will be partially Stroggified thereby gaining increased speed, strength and the ability to interface with terminals throughout the house. He will also have a PDA to record his -notes- and record messages from the ghosts of previous occupants. His right eye will be a zoom lens and his spine will be a detachable ghost-smiting longbow.

Also, he'll have a sidekick, Barry, a loveable buffon with enlarged earlobes and an infectious cackle. And a peg leg. Which acts as an incendiary grenade.

Well, now I feel utterly, utterly stupid for having hardly any faith in the project blushing.gif

I really enjoyed 5DaS because it was a horror suspense game that kept the atmosphere without adding a lot of actual danger - I'll be interested in seeing how it is altered, but I hope it doesn't end up like the Call of Cthulhu game (which I absolutely love, except for the parts where I died like a hojillion times). It seems like 7DaS would benifit more from this treatment, where the Welder could now pop out of nowhere and kill you in incredibly detailed and realistic ways.

On a side note, is that Trilby's car parked outside in the render? You'd think he could steal something more stylish, like a Bentley.

Well now the Y-man is involved, thing's are looking pretty sweet.

The mansion looks deadly anyways, hopefully it will get finished and be up to the required quality. Doubt Yahtzee would let it out without his seal of approval.

I'd say that more then likely its just an existing car from HL2 that they've just placed in their map until they do one that looks like Trilby's original car.

Sounds good. I just hope you keep technical control. 5DAS is like the original Wallace & Gromit shows; don't let it become 'Flushed Away'.

Woohoo!

Seeing as Yahtzee has acknowledged his part in the project, I can hold up a little cut-out flag that says "I didn't bad mouth this project but rather contributed to it by offering an alternative engine to use! Wee!"

..Might need a bigger flag though.

Hooray for contribution!

I don't believe these guys will ever finish the project, even with Yathzee's help. But I'd like to see their 3D Welder. I liked the screenshots.
