I dont consider myself a hardcore gamer by today's standard. although i did buy my ps2 in 2000, when few others had one. i have a pretty large video game collection, easily well over 400 titles..maybe more. I also have more than 10 console systems.

I started my collection with my first atari 2600 (which i still have), and through the years I have found myself buying more and more video games. Now that I'm in my 30's, I dont have the same amount of free time to play the games I own, and everytime I buy a game and add it to my massive collection, it makes the time I do get to play games, just that much more divided,.to where I get less and less time to play each and every title.

In 1985, Nintendo revived what many thought to be a doomed market. Ever since, people just like myself have been buying game after game and adding it to their own collection. Im not here to boast about my collection, cause Im quite sure there are many who have much larger collections than I do. But the issue Id like to discuss is, when is too much enough? Not only does owning games/systems take up more and more space in one's home,..but trying to devote your love of games to your favorite titles takes up so much time as well. It gets down to the point of, sooner or later, you will revisit a classic title and forget all the special moves you once could execute flawlessly.

Is there a such thing as video game addiction?

I find myself helpless when it comes to buying the lastest installments of key franchise titles such as: Grand theft auto, metal gear solid, final fantasy, castlevania,..just to name a few

personally, I commend those publishers who take the time to condense many favorite classics onto a single disc compilation. digital eclipse, namely. doing so, at least frees up a lot of space to store other games.

I try hard to resist buying games sometimes,..but for example,.when I went to Target and found "Prince of Persia 2-the two thrones" for xbox for only $4.98...I couldnt resist it.

I am however, financially disciplining myself these days-to a certain degree,...I know if a major franchise title is released, it is more than destined to eventually become a "greatest hits/platinum hits/etc--$19.99" title, and I will just buy it then at that price,..than pay the full $49.99 price when it is first released. I mean,..why bother?..I have so many games in my collection already,..many of which I still havent beaten yet,.so I plenty to tide me over until the next game I want reaches a more desireable sticker price.

If any of you have similiar thoughts towards this, please feel free to share them.

My girlfriend would say yes, and that I have one.

Good deals are good deals, regardless of what product you're buying. That's a good game (doesn't live up to Sands of Time, in my opinion, but good to have anyhow), and definitely worth the 5$ price tag. tongue.gif

I'm not a rabid buyer. The only titles I'll get at full price are ones I know I won't see marked down because they'll disappear (and they're usually a little cheaper), and big-name first-party titles, which essentially have been the last two Zelda games and that's it.

I don't collect games, I just try to get the ones I really like to play and that I think are worth while owning and supporting. I've lost a game or two to someone borrowing them (I think my neighbor back home still has the Lion King for SEGA Genesis), and I will never forgive myself for trading in two NES games when they were still tradable for other NES games in more than eclectic game shops (Shadowgate and Duck Tales). I have a bunch of NES games because my best friend didn't want them anymore, a Genesis, an N64, and a Gamecube, all with some of the must-have games.

My game-playing is off and on lately though. What with college and a girlfriend and my own general change in interest, I find myself with a great many games I have yet to complete and a lot of times just not wanting to play anything, or not having time, or wanting to do something else.

Well the first computer I had was an Atari 1024 STE. Wasn't good because that encourged me to become addicted to games I didn't understand to play.

Now I specialise with only one game and that is Unreal Tournament.
My addiction is trying to get 0 deaths on Morpheus map.
Sadly not many people join as much anymore as I expected.

For me. One game and lots of time to play.

Oh great, now I've got the image of people starting games, pushing buttons helplessly and evenutally crashing against a wall after two seconds, then try again for three months straight in my head. wacko.gif

Pop quiz, hotshot. Garry Kasparov is coming to kill you, and the only way to change his mind is for you to beat him at chess. What do you do, what do you do?

Yes, but it wasn't two months. Random times.

I fall tired to any kind of 2d game where the level restarts right from the beginning after loosing. Lots of these type of games... mostly boring.
