Christmas 2006

Well, it's been a hectic end to 2006 and beginning to 2007 but as my Christmas Tree is surely dying and the presents are still lined underneath I felt now was a good time to give a run down of all the wonderful presents I received for the Christmas of 2006. (Note: This does not include presents from Paul since we normally don't remember to exchange presents until sometime in late May).

Nintendo Wii
Jen's sister waited in line at 3:00AM to get this for me and it's a good thing she did because they still don't appear to be readily available. After playing with the Wii for a few days now all I can say is, "Wow." I had my doubts about the system a year ago but I got more and more excited about it leading up to the launch. For the price tag you can't beat it. I paid more for the Nintendo 64 over ten years ago and this system is incredible. When Mario Galaxy comes out I intend to simply hang out in my apartment and ignore the outside world even more than I do presently.

Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess
I'm about 20 hours into the game according to the game clock (though that doesn't really count because I accidentally left it running for about sixteen hours on New Year's Eve into New Year's Day). I just beat the Forest Temple (first dungeon) last night and it's pretty much everything I've come to expect from a Zelda game though I do miss the cell shaded look of Windwaker.

DragonBall Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2
I played this for a few minutes before I got wrapped up in Zelda. It seems to be pretty awesome but it's very difficult to explore too fully since there still aren't any Nintendo Wii controllers available for sale. I'm looking forward to playing it soon when I can get my hands on another controller. One thing is sure, they've certainly included nearly every possible character you could hope for though I'm a little disappointed that I won't be able to play as Recoome.

ShowerTek Fog Free Mirror
I've been wanting one of these for years. It's really stupid to want something so badly for so long and not buy it even though it only costs $20.00. I finally hooked it up last night and used it and it was everything I'd hoped it would be. Apparently it affixes to the shower head and runs the water through the mirror to match the temperature with that of the water ,thus eliminating fog. Now I can shave in the shower which for some reason is something I've really been wanting to do.

Working With You is Killing Me
It's about working with people that you can't stand (obviously). Strangely there really isn't anyone I work with that I can't stand but I'm interested in the theory behind it (and in helping others with the people they can't stand.

The Innovator's Dilemma
A book about how certain innovations and new technologies can cause some companies to fail.

The Omnivore's Dilemma
Another book about dilemmas, this time the dilemma is how everything in America is made out of corn.

Home Movies Season One
For some reason the first season was the only season I didn't own. No I can enjoy all of Coach McGuirk's amazing dialoge for all four seasons.

Maple Sugar Candies
This sugar is made from maple syrup and not corn. There's probably some Canadian dilemma about it.

New Glasses
For drinking. This comes after a long year of breaking most of our existing glasses.

New Bowls
After purchasing many cheap Ikea bowls it's time to make the investment in permanent bowls that are not merely bowls that are half way between disposable and ceramic.

Chocolate Peanut Butter
Delicious peanut butter with chocolate ground into it.

The Grumpy Troll T-Shirt
From some bar that Jen's dad went to. It features a picture of an actual grumpy troll so how can you go wrong?

Red Dwarf: Season VIII
The last (and possibly worst?) season of Red Dwarf which completes my collection. I think this was the season where our friend Yahtzee was in the studio audience for an episode.

Seagate 320GB SATA Hard Drive
Finally another hard drive to bring my storage capacity to nearly one terrabyte. Now I can store even more gigantic files on my hard drive from all the digital captures I've been doing of our old VHS home movies.

Boxer Shorts
Because the others were holy.

Marshmallows
Delicious. Expensive. Vanilla.

The Providence and Rhode Island Cookbook
Now I finally know how to make Buddy Cianci's sauce.

A Windbrella
After two and a half years of buying $5.00 umbrellas that get torn apart my the ravages of New York City rain abuse I now have an umbrella that I plan on keeping longer than two months. I'm hoping that unlike the umbrellas you buy from people on the street this umbrella will not break into pieces on its second use.

Wooden Spoons
For mixin' it up.

A Tiny Whisk
For whiskin' it up.

Meat Magic
For seasonin' it up befor I mix or whisk it.

Delicious Double Chocolate Cookies
Like those chocolate stripe cookies the Keebler elves used to make only better.

Fleur Du Sel
It's got to be good if they can't simply call it sea salt in English.

A Scarf
To add to my collection (now at two scarves).

$100 Old Navy Gift Card
To buy some much needed pants. I'm even going to try my hand at getting pants that fit for a change.

Daim Candies
Everyone's favorite Swedish candies that you get at Ikea.

For glasses are your's heat resistant?

I am planning to buy four Seagate 750 gigabyte drives with a raid controller after I save up enough. But at Christmas I just didn't have enough to leave me a reasonable balance.

Costly but that way I have some assurance incase of failure.

Ahh.. I was going to go the route of the greater than one terabyte raid. And I will someday.. Like once I actually get back into the animation and video stuff.

Chefelf, looks like a good haul biggrin.gif

is Zelda's swordplay-adventure as fab as it seems? The main Wii game I've played is Sports, & while I'm diggin' boxing a lot, it seems like marrying the bob-n-weeve (or better yet, thrust & parry) of battle with a quest-based game would kick much many butt (though just dueling/boxing is kind of neat for a while).

Lefty, to answer your question, the game is pretty incredible. It's easy to see how it could be played without the special controller but it certainly adds a whole new dimension to the game.

I think Wii Sports is friggin' awesome. Considering no systems have comewith a game included in ages it's a really good deal and really showcases the new controller as well as just being all around fun.

I'm still searching for a second controller but pretty much every store has been sold out of them for weeks.

BTW: Jen thought I should note that it was HER that actually paid for the Wii even though her sister waited in line to get it.

I still think Jen's sister is the hero of that story. Waiting in line sucks.

Sorry Jen. I hope you had a great Christmas. And, uh, keep him away from that Mario thing.

Congratulations on joining the "We Own All The Home Movies Sets On DVD" club! We're happy to welcome you among our ranks.
Is it me, or is the CD included with season four AWESOME?

Is it me #2:
Is it me, or do you get those maple sugar candies every year? I seem to recall them popping up in the past...

Awww, congrats on the Wii! smile.gif
I have set aside my Wii hunting until the summer, but for now, I am very happy with the Dreamcast my boyfriend got for me for Christmas. I can only imagine the adventures he had as he searched for a month (a month!) to find all of the games / peripherals I used to have for the system. wub.gif
