Just struck me again how dumb that supposedly dramatic dialogue that the Elder Lars says about Shmi being taken away by the Sandpeople is. His bum leg and the fact that he could probably buy another wife after next season's earnings come in didn't exactly light a fire under his still intact ass. Owen seems content in waiting out until the old guy passes on until the still/moisture farm is all his. Someone from across the galaxy manages to find Shmi with a little work whereas these two have written them off for dead ASAP.

I HATE that entire portion. Well, the 2nd movie entirely, expecially that part. And then Clieg gives the Eulogy!

Annie ought to give Lars the tusken treatment, if only to provide Owen with the sense of security, that he won't be the next family member stolen and ignored by those Savages.

Another lazy-assed, pigeon-holed solution to why whammy went wong.

"You were a good wife, and....say your highness, Amidalla, do you think you could take a dirty old man along to join your entourage, I could just get by sniffing your day's expired undergarments, that would be tanks enough...."

At least Owen got even by selling the tombstones and remains to some crooked medical outfit, because we don't see them in ANH.

Finally! Someone making new threads to rip on the PT!

Whenever I see this scene, I always start laughing at the uelogy because it's so fake. You can tell it was entirely scripted. It bothered me to the point where I thought young Beru was going to pull out a box of "Nerds" candies and Owen would see them and oggle and beg for some. And they would banter on and this scene would be somewhat enjoyable.

Padme looked horrible in this scene, a precursor to how bad she looks in EP III. Anakin, .....(sigh) there's no hope for him. This scene wasn't sad, it was just poor.

A bum leg nothing!!!!
If he really loved Shmi he wouldn't
have cared about his leg or how many men died.

He would have tracked the raiders
and fought to them death.
What kinda sick marriage was that relationship?

If thats the way Cliegg really was toward her i bet she ran away.
no one desevers that disrespect!
Which means he never really thought of her as his wife just a possession.

And what happened to Wifey #1.
Did she get Tuskennapped too
The foolishness!

Aside from use as a punching bag, was there any real reason the Tuskens would have wanted her?

Hey, i'm just saying
that if he handled business

at home maybe she would've
had some insentive

to i don't know get away,
fight for her life. . .

possibly even kill a few Tuskies herself.

From a story standpoint, what exactly is the point of keeping the character of Cliegg around and delivering that eulogy? It's like Lucas owed the actor a favor or something just give him a few more lines and not edit it out... it's just weird.

Again, more evidence that the PT desperately needed some heavy editing in the script. Wouldn't it make more sense to arrive at the homestead to find just Beru there and she tells Anakin that Cliegg and Owen went after the Tuskens? Anakin goes out and finds them, or finds Cliegg dead. Owen is grieving, but Anakin shows little regard for this man who meant nothing to him, and continues on to save Shmi?

Seems like it would have been neat and sufficient that way.

Yes it would have
made much more sense

(especially the dead
Cliegg part, since he was
completely pointless)

which is exactly why
it wasn't done

Random thoughts, my darling:

"Toomk" tongue.gif

This is about the midpoint of the PT. You might also call it "The point of no return".

Lucas tries very hard to create drama where there is none. The entire 'They killed mommy!' plot-line is a weak excuse to cram OT characters and locations into the PT. Far from being dramatic, that whole sorry sequence is boring and hamfisted.
