This may be a little late in the game, but since playing Oblivion was the one thing I have been doing apart from work for the last five months, here is my two panny:
Helena actually mentioned something that I also found silly - somethimes you avoid levelling your main skills! So, in order to level quickly, make your main skills as lame as possible, starting from 5, not 30 or 40, and then you'll level like crazy.

I deeply regretted the lack of levitation spell. The excuse was that it was abused in Morrowind - I wonder how, though.

But the sight of sun setting in the sea viewed from the hill above Anvil makes up for most of the annoying things.
Also, the alchemy is better organised. I do not have to scroll throught zillion ingredients to find the one that fortifies magicka, the game filters the ingredients for you.

However, for me Morrowind was more "magical". The flora and fauna was more like from another world, whereas in Oblivion I feel a little like in Europe - boars, bears, foxglove plants and summer bolete mushrooms.

The levitation spell was used to effortlessly fly into areas that would be difficult to get to otherwise (for example, Dagoth Ur's fortresses), and nicking the valuable items without having to fight anyone. The other reason they didn't implement it into Oblivion was that the cities' maps are separated from the world map, so you'd just see a circle of walls around a big patch of emptiness from above.

I'm sure that it was more of the latter. Morrowind was built around literally go anywhere, do anything, so it was perfectly acceptable to levitate yourself somewhere to steal something without fighting. Hell, it was one of the quests for the thieves guild!!

Firstly, brilliant to see you again Madame.

Secondly, complete agreement with Slade? I loved the freedom that Morrowind allowed you in solving problems. I could finish the theives guild without gettting caught (or only seen a one or twice, at the very most) with bugger all theiving skills, thanks to thoughtful use of speechcraft, alteration and mysticism. Open door spell (Alteration) could open doors and telekinesis (mysticism) could be used to safely trip traps, completely negating the need for security. As for sneak, well you could usually position yourself in such a way that telekinesis would allow you to take what you wanted without attracting attention. And if the person was carrying an item, instead of trying to use sneak to pick their pocket, you could just taunt them into attacking you, then kill them 'in self defence' (I swear, you all saw that orphanage attack me!) and remove it from their corpse.

I was particularly impressed when I managed to steal Felen's ebony staff from right under his nose without using sneak or being seen, without using the walkthrough that I just posted.

Thanx, Sime wub.gif
Funny thing - I actually never used sneak in Morrowind, either. telekinesis and invisibility did it all for me. including the Felen staff.
However, I did not finish Morrowind because I literally got lost. For Hlaalu house quests I was told to find some Telvanni, and I swear I walked all of the blood south-east coast and could not find their camp. So I gave up in the end. That is why Oblivion is really child's play with the little red and green pointers. There is not need to think and take bearing or anything, just follow the damn pointer.

But the transition system is something I wish Morrrowind had had. I just could not stand it when for the fifth time I had to walk to Pelagiad.

The fast move did make things easier, but to me it ruined the immersion. I just can't justify it. If it was a teleport spell of some sort, fine. Fast movement(basically, you walk there, but you don't get attacked by anything and don't discover places inbetween) just didin't cut it for me. Also, it took out all the fun of planning the most optimal route. Oh, the days of "If I cast Almsivi intervention, then get the stilt strider and finallay a boat, I can be in Gnaar Mok from Molag Amur wilderness in 5 minutes". (Almsivi intervention to Malog Mar, Stilt strider to Vivec, boat to Gnaar Mok).
