Of those my favorite is Street Fighter, although I spent quite a few hours playing Mortal Kombat.

I play mostly vintage games and RPGs.

Street Fighter has some fantastic incarnations. SFII: campion edition will always have a special place in my heart. And the rest you mentioned are amazing.

But as awesome as all those 2-d fighters are, i still love 3-d fighters just as much. Tekken 3 and VF4 are hard to deny their god-like status.
Sorry to get off topic :X .

Anyway, i want to buy GGX2, but it's too damned expensive now (and i don't shop online, so.. i have to wait).

OMG! these are all considered old school now? Where has all the time gone? I really feel old now, but it is true, 2d is completley dead. I never thought about it till now.

I remember a time when I would buy EGM's ( electronic gaming monthly ) and thumb through them, never really reading a single article, just look at the pics. I recall being really excited about MK2 coming out on SNES. I was super happy to find out that the version will contain blood in it. Now i dont think it is possible not to find a game with no blood in it. I still remember being blown away with starfox and the first mario on SNES. Altered beast on sega and not to forget alex kidd.

And even before that in elementary school I had talks with the other kids about mega man, little nemo the dream master, mario 2 and 3, blaster master, Link, and of course mike tysons punch out.

Yesterday.... All my troubles seem so far away, lalalalala oh I believe in yesterday.

I remember preview ads and pamphlets for StarFox... "the first game to have 3d pixels" or so Nintendo tried to show off... the graphics were amazing when I saw them... ohmy.gif

Who hear played that Dragon ball fighter game on super famicom? It was the most painful experience in the world. Instead of doing hadokens like ryu and ken, all you had to do is press a button. The game was terrible

oh wait this is serious. yeah i played that gay game. you press one button and their stupid beam thingy homes in on the target. now since i used to like dragonball z for about a year, i felt that if the game was sort of similiar to the series, the good parts, it would be worth it. but NO. it was dog slow. it sucked.

For starters, it's a Dragon Ball game. They have yet to release anything related to that franchise that's worth the time or money, including two of the three TV series (Z and GT). As for fighters, I enjoy the old Genesis/SNES ones as much as the next guy.

Its a shame this thread died 3 years ago, cause old school fighters are the shiznit

Now, of course there are basically 2 types of fighters, those where you take on your buddy or computer opponent, and the side scrolling adventure type. I like both,

some of my fav are:

Double Dragon
Battletoads
Fatal Fury
Streets of Rage
Shinobi:Shadow Dancer
Bad Dudes
Ninja Gaiden
Robocop
Street Fighter
Clayfighter

All 2-D Street Fighter games have a place in my heart.

SF 1 and 2 pretty much started the whole revolution. Then Capcom got crazy with all the turbo and super and super plus turbo titles.

Best SF games ever, Street Fighter: Alpha 3 and Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike! The original director of the 2-D SF games called it quits after 3rd Strike was made and there has been no great fighting game since.

I hate all that 3-D crap. It's just polygons. 2-D was the best IMO because it was all hand drawn and animated.

Clarification: You can't find a game without blood. All games are programed with an over spilling of blood to please the violent appetites of gamers worlwide. It's near impossible to find any games that don't include blood.
