I have been saving up for a long time for this. I have four drives for storage but not in raid and some of which are over four years old and I am paranoid that they can fail at any time. They have been running non stop solid since 2003 and I am slowly copying the stuff onto dvd's.

Now I am planning to get four serial ata Seagate 750 gigabyte drives with a good raid controller to put them in raid 5. So three for storage and one for backup storage incase one drive fails or I could just have two with the other two for mirroring.

I am looking for something secure but I am unsure whether my stuff will be lost if two drives fail at the same time on striping them with one drive reserved as backup.

Any thoughts?
