I have a Black Widow 4800 SP scanner which was given to me years ago because no one could get it to work. The drivers were poorly made and only fixed to an 8 bit scsi card. I opened the circuit board to find it IS an Artec AT3 board. Quite stupidly they buy a scanner that is NOT there own and change the strings in the cmos chip so that it won't work with the AT3 drivers and handlers despite me trying. When they went out of business (I am not superised) some place charged for a new interface and drivers. I got it working once with Windows 95 on an Adaptec controller and impressed by the speed and picture quality.

Getting to the point.
Before it goes into the bin I have found one solution.
It is listed on the backend drivers of the SANE project. I have absolutely no experience with Linux. I set up Fedora Core 6 on a computer here and SANE already came installed. The Adaptec SCSI controller and scanner are plugged in but Sane cannot detect the scanner.

I got SANE from the site but I don't know what to do to install it despite reading the text files.
