Why, did you witness something you weren't supposed to?

Way ahead of you there, David-chan. I've sent him some mind-altering drug that will soon corrupt his brain's broca's area - he won't squeal to anyone.

QUOTE (Blueskirt @ Dec 16 2006, 05:48 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Indeed. Personally, after the 100 first 8Bit strips or so, I spend most of the following strips to wonder why the heck I was still reading 8Bit since it was always the same old thing, an huge amount of useless text and images ending with Red Mage editing his character sheet, Thief stealing something or shoving his contract at the party's face, Fighter saying something dumb, White Mage clubbing Black Mage with a huge hammer or Black Mage backstabbing or going Hadoken on some NPC, but mostly on Fighter. In fact, I laughed more often and for a longer time at the guest strips made for that webcomic than any of the original strips all reunited.

Nah, it may only make me laugh every 2 or 3 strips (and generally with the asides, rather than the actual punchline), but it's still good enough to keep reading. The strip where Black Mage horfs up his own intestines with blue magic can still make me laugh far too much just by thinking about it. Mind you, when it comes to webcomics, I've probably seen too many. The ones I'm currently reading can generally be categorised thusly.

Those I check every day for new updates:

Sluggy Freelance
Order of the Stick (it may not update every day, but I can still hope)
Irregular Webcomic

Those I check every time there's a new update:

Rob and Elliot
Penny Arcade
VG Cats
8 Bit Theater

Those I check every week or so and catch several updates of at once:

Ctrl Alt Del

Those that update once in a fucking lifetime, so I forget about until I notice the link in my Favourites and check 'em again:

Gone With The Blastwave

Those I still haven't slogged through the archives of:

PVP
Qwantz
Ghost Cat

Those that have finished, and are badly missed:

Concerned

Girdag Fireskull: I could go ahead and list all the webcomics I check every day, but considering I currently follow 50 webcomics or so, 40 of them which I check every day for updates because, well, because it's easier than remembering all their update days, I'll refrain myself from posting the entire list and just comment those you posted. And the keyword in that last sentence is "currently", because I don't list all the webcomics I tried but failed to get into, or which I read but deleted at some point or another for not being funny enough or simply being cancelled. wink.gif

But maybe that's why I became extremely picky or rough at reviewing them. When it's obvious that one comic stop making me laugh, I make a ratio between the number of strips it takes to make me laugh just once, and when that ratio is too high (IE too much not funny strip just for a good one), I simply delete the comic from my favorites.

8Bit fell in that category. Not only it didn't make me laugh at all around the end but all those long and unfunny (IMO) strips were a pain to catch up with everytime I found myself with no internet connection for several weeks in a row. So I simply flushed the bookmark. They were roaming in a volcano when I stopped to follow the strip. I seems to remember a blue submarine kind of airship or something. Last I remember of it. But reading it wasn't a huge waste of time because the first hundred of strips were really good, plus it's a guest strip made for it that made me discover The Order Of the Stick, which replaced 8Bit in my list of favorites and which still make me laugh with every strips or so. In fact, I consider the OOTS guest strip for 8Bit to be the best 8Bit strip ever made.

I also read CAD, for as long as I read OOTS, but this one is on the verge of deletion for a year now. The comic is splitted in so many arc, some which are hillarous and some which are completly boring, that everytime I get really bored of it, another arc begin to change my mind about it. It's really weird.

I tried to get into Penny Arcade, but at some point as I was reading the archive, I just disconnected. CAD makes fun about games that got so much coverage on the TV ads, websites or my friends that I can laugh at them even if I never played said games, or it make fun of geeky things in general, which again I can laugh at. But Penny Arcade was making fun at so many games I never heard off that most of the time I was saying "Huh?" after reading a strip. And when it wasn't a gaming strip, it was a strip with the same kind of humor as CAD's Chief Brian strips which again made me say "Huh?", so I gave up Penny Arcade.

There is a lot of other webcomic juggernauts like that which everyone acclaim but I personally never got into and there is a lot of video games webcomics I never got into because I already had CAD and at some point a man realise one video games webcomic is far enough.

Now if I had to pick a bunch of webcomics from my endless list, to bring them on a deserted island, I'd say:

Beaver and Steve (It's cute, absurd, hillarous and the guy is an artist at using onomatopae)
The Order of the Stick
The White Ninja
Clone Manga Army (Mostly for Nana's Everyday's Life and Tomoyo42's Room because it's hard to follow a serious manga storyline when there's so many time between each updates)
The Perry Bible Fellowship
Chopping Block (Too bad that one seems cancelled)
Gone With the Blastwave
Post Nuke Comic
Daedalus Blue
Commissioned Comic (But I recognize this one isn't for everyone, not only you need to like RPG but most of the time you need to read the blog entry to understand the strip fully. It's often more like an illustrated blog but I like it.)
And YTOTW.

But yeah, there's enough webcomics to fit everyone's tastes and this several times, and I probably went overboard at criticizing C&T, but my point was mostly that unlike the webcomics listed above or any of Yahtzee's games, C&T was not something I cherished.

And I doubt I ever told you but I have this weird condition that can make me type and read a post and re-read and edit and re-re-read and re-re-re-read again for 2 friggin hours, and on this my rational self tell me it's time to stop typing. smile.gif

Whoa, long post. 50 webcomics? How can you even remember what's going on?

CAD's main story is shite, but it occasionally hits with a good game-based joke. I really dislike the main Elan and Lila theme, though.
