I seem to have come down with a nasty cold. Coughing, sneezing, fever, aches, etc. Seeing that I haven't been doing anything differently I can only attribute this sickness to the lack of having a Nintendo Wii. While there haven't been any other documented cases of this in the United States I am lead to believe that this is AWS or Accute Wii Sickness.

The only significant thing that has happened recently is that I have not gotten a Nintendo Wii. That's right, folks. I've now had longer than a week and I have still not gotten my hands on a Wii. Since the last three days have been spent in bed napping and watching the James Bond marathon on Spike TV it's not actually that surprising that I haven't gotten a Wii yet. But that's the tragedy of the illness. How is one incapacitated with AWS supposed to actually go to the store and get one. The further tragedy is that I can't even send someone to get one for me since all the stores sold out instantly last Sunday when it was released.

If there's one thing I hate doing, it's lying on the couch and watching TV but what else can one do when sick. In the past two days I watched A View To A Kill, Moonraker, Goldfinger, For Your Eyes Only, From Russia With Love and Octopussy easily tripling the number of Bond movies I've seen. The commercial breaks were peppered with video game commercials just to tease me even more. There's that commercial where that jackass jumps behind his couch and uses his Wii controller like a rifle to kill some nazis and then that other one where that other jackass crouches down and shoots webs like Spider-Man. No one seems to have told either of these clowns that the movements of your body don't actually effect gameplay.

Between those commercials and the commercial for Gears of War with the Sufjan Stevens song I was being driven crazy by a flurry of next-gen gaming being dangled in front of my face. Every third story posted on digg.com seemed to be some lame video of some assholes who waited in line to get a Playstation 3 just so they could smash it in front of all the people in line.

After three days of lying in bed I've built up enough strength and determination to beat this thing. I left the house today for the first time since Thursday morning to go to the corner store and get some milk. I'm keeping my eyes on Refresh Thing and being envious of this four-year-old girl who already has a Wii (and a potty mouth) and knowing that sooner or later I too will possess a Wii.

Also, I've watched the Wii Episodes of South Park (Season 10, Episode "Go God Go" and "Go God Go XII") about four times this week.

Nintendo Wii controllers are so convenient! It's like sitting back and playing a game with a simple remote... not having to worry about the heavy-dutiness (?) of huge-ass and inconvenient XBox controllers.

I hate XBox controllers. Too many buttons mashed together. Too bulky. Too much confusion. We should all get together with Michael Moore and make a documentary about how XBox is poisoning childrens' minds these days.

My Christmas Life Day wish is that Chef gets a Wii... and that Michael Moore considers my documentary idea.

Well I didn't say I hadn't played the others...
When the first Nintendo came out, my father was the one making the decisions.. and we got a sega master system. I didn't buy another console till the first playstation, and that was due to Gran Turismo. Gran Turismo 3 was what drove me to get a PS2. GT5 when it comes out, and not really GT HD which has no content included and as far as I can tell is a scaled up version of GT4, will drive me to get a PS3. (That and the blue-ray player so I can watch HD movies on my projector biggrin.gif )

So.. yes it will be the First Nintendo product tongue.gif

I hope you get your wish as well!

I haven't been this excited for a new console since the N64 which I preordered and picked up the day it was released. That was ten years ago. I was 19 and things were much simpler then.

As someone who's been doubting Nintendo for a long time now I think they're making a great move with this system. Also, like the N64, it's the games that are exciting me to play this, most specifically the new Zelda and Mario games.

I dunno guys, I can't seem to get over the bad taste left in my mouth from the Gamecube rotting on me when I wanted to play it most. My 'cube, and two of my friends' 'cubes all died at the exact same time, down to the frickin' week. We all purchased our 'cubes at roughly the same time too. I waited in a line past midnight with reservation stub in hand, waiting for the new Rogue Squadron. For a year and a half it seemed, all was well, but the one week when Windwaker was released, all of our 'cubes died.

I made my complaint to Nintendo directly and they acted like they had never even heard of these problems. As I went to Gamestops and E.B.'s, customers in there were all complaining about the same problem that I and my two friends had experienced. No one would help us, and not even Nintendo. After our years in youth, puberty, adolescence, and now adulthood, we have been loyal to their cause and they turn on us when we all had jobs to buy their ilk.

(heh heh heh) Soooo, I went back to a Gamestop, saw an employee that did not recognize my image, and traded in my desecrated Gamecube for some sweet "in store credit." I didn't tell him anything was wrong with it. I got a good amount of credit and the satisfaction knowing that some "dead beat dad" is going to buy that cube that was once mine for his child and it won't work, and that kid is gonna be excited to get it Christmas morning and turn it on, and then feel the utter hurt of dreams smashed to pieces, as were mine.

I did my part.

Just saw today that there is a standard controller for the Wii and it looks just like the old SNES controller. I may be interested in this system.... maybe...

I've had my GameCube for two years at least, and I've broken controllers by smashing them into the top of the system in fits of wrathful frustration, and it still works wonderfully. The time's a teensy bit slow, so I need to adjust it every month or two by about 5 seconds, but that happened before my game rage, and I've stopped flipping out, too.

I hope you finish feeling better, ChefElf.

Has there even been a second shipment of Wiis?

Cuz, everytime i go to work i get asked (and the answer is no)
and everytime i go to the mall, i get a big no!!!
If so and there has been another shipment,
my electronic guy is a liar, liar, liar.

Everyone has gone to pieces over a little box.
It's all cloak and dagger.....
Silent night......
Serects and lies!

I actually don't want a Wii but

i have this wierd need to see one up close.
To hold it, possibly play it once...
But then never again.
I've heard that people are geting stabbed and such,

just for a game system!
An inexpensive one at that!
So Chef you stay at home in bed ...
Where it's safe.

Though i'm sure by now you're out and about.

My game cube still works and I’ve kicked the hell out of it (on accident of course) dropped it… I think one of my cats even peed on it, and it still works fine. Of course, I don’t play it that much. I bought it for 2 reasons: 1. WindWaker and 2. the special edition Zelda that had all the old zeldas including Ocarina of time. My game cube has served me well.

I will eventually be purchasing a Wii (as much as I despise the name) and will most likely only be puchasing one game for it. You'll never guess which one.
