Over the past 24 hours, the number of posts is in the single figures. This is not the same as it used to be, in a time long ago. In bad old days, you could be writing a post, and by the time you clicked to post it, five other people have already posted. You could make one topic, go to get a drink, and when you came back it would be a hot topic.

We must return to the days of old! The question is how. This is not a debate to if the forums are dieing (but, of course that never stopped anyone before), but as to how to stop it.

I have noticed that too. Not much seems to be going on. Either people are busy or a lack of dedication maybe?

What can be done: For me to tell others I know to join but what is there to talk about?
Can't express all my views anyway I like here? I feel I have to be careful to how I say things here or I might offend, irritate or cause someone to become abusive. Hope I haven't.

Maybe by introducing more topics:
Allowing people to open up their own sub forums for a specific topic of their choice.
(So subjects can be categorized in order using sub forums rather than lying flat in the lobby.)
Problem: Will this be to big to manage?

How about this but I think it is unlikely to happen: Users to have rights to manage their own threads to remove unnecessary posts with vulgarism so we don't have to run to the bigwigs to sort it out. I do find it a bit undermining for someone else to do it for me in a thread I created.

Problem: But how sensible are the posters?

Could be leading down to this...

I myself have been wicked busy with school and life in general. I don't get to hop on nearly as often as I used to.
Apparently writing about JM here is his secret weakness. Muwahaha!!!! Now I have leverage over him and am another step closer towards my goal of world domination.

"And the Evil that was vanquished shall rise anew. Wrapped in the guise of man shall he walk amongst the innocent and Terror shall consume they that dwell upon the Earth. The skies will rain fire. The seas shall become as blood. The righteous shall fall before the wicked! And all creation shall tremble before the burning standards of Hell!" - Mephisto

Kurgan X showed me this web comic done with Legos. It pokes fun at all six Star Wars films and I found it to be extremely entertaining.

I've got a life now. A real one. And it's fun, too! Woo!

Ehh... hey wait, I don't think I have to justify my actions or inactions here, as I'm still visiting 'tis 'ere site pretty much every day. pinch.gif

I've been deprived of internets for two months or so. I'm only on now by stretching my network cable across the hall into a router, meaning I don't even have the length to sit on the sofa.

I'm in my lounge, lying in front of the sofa. Make of that what you will.

Well in the past few months, I have noticed that posts will be smaller on Friday and Saturday nights. People are probably out doing things... There are more posts on this site around the middle of the week, mainly consisting of depressing rants or marvelous elations. I'm sure within the time around Thanksgiving and the end of Christmas until New Years, the posts will pick up. There will be slacking through February and March though, not unless some really good film comes out.

Or, something ...unforseen could happen at any moment, and all of the confused and insecure would come on here and the Depression thread would recieve the most hits.

I never really posted on all that many threads anyway. When fewer and fewer were active, I didn't spend as much time on chefelf. I'm guessing that as a result of that, I got more reluctant to post things for fear of saying something stupid (which I do with unnerving frequency).

It's amazing how much the forums have changed from when I first started posting to now. I don't think it would even be reasonably possible to post 120 times in one day now.

It's even changed remarkably since I first came here, and that was only a little over a year ago, I think. I think I post about the same, though... But people are less likely to post when there's really nothing to respond to, so I think if a couple or a handful of people dedicated to this cause (tongue.gif) just decided to start taking ten minutes per day and just posting a lot, just going through several threads and saying something random (still relating to the thread, of course), people would have something to respond to and they'd do it. I don't think it would make it get to the point where people were posting 120 posts per day, as on the whole, the Forums population has all grown older and life has been filled with much of work, significant others, and other RL phenomena. But it might help to make it less "dead."
I am writing about Jm in my signature because apparently it's an effective method of ignoring him.

What we need is for GL to produce a new Star Wars movie, so the Chef can make a new reasons to hate. XD

True. Lucas feeds people crap, but there's a feeding frenzy. When Sith came out, that weekend we were breaking all kinds of records around here.

But here's one that's kind of ironic, from the home page: Most users ever online was 396 on Nov 1 2006, 06:25 AM huh.gif

That is interesting but also take note that Nov 1, was on a Wednesday (middle of the week). I've noticed the pattern of posts according to the days of the week. After Monday night, things pick up temporarly and by Thursday things are going pretty well, but Friday night, all is lost.

This site, as with all things created, follow a rythm and flow. Life begins to get interesting when looking for the rythm of all things.

I've been here forever, the forum goes hot to cold and back again through out the years.

No cause for alarm.

I agree with Jordan. Posts and activity fluctuate. *shrug*

I'm on vacation from college at the moment, and I have dial-up, so I'll only be online in the wee hours of the morning EST for two weeks or so, though I have been pondering an idea to get forum members acting up... But more on that if I actually follow through. tongue.gif

I can definitely say that I spend a lot less time here now. Call it lack of interest on my part. I spend enough time at a local bar now that they all know me by name, and are throwing my birthday party next week. Put simply, I have a life outside of the internets now.

Oh, and there's that whole engaged thing.
