I have had another one of these. Someone told me what they do is, they demand a sum of money for a attorney to sort out the money and legal bills, then they charge for moving the money, then they charge for spray painting it black for security reasons and a big bill for sending it. Predictably white paper covered in black ink. If you arranged to meet these people, they kidnap you and demand a large sum of money.

Now why does a Chief Financial Officer from the Bank of China contacts me from a Hotmail account when they are most likely to have their own?

A different Email address? Spam bots behave like this as well.

QUOTE
I am Mr Lee Wing Hung, Chief Financial Officer of the Bank of China, Hong Kong. I have an obscured business proposal for you. Before the U.S and Iraqi war, our client Aajel Jiber, a Businessman and merchant made a numbered fixed deposit valued at Twenty Four million Five Hundred Thousand United State Dollars, for 18 calendar months, in my branch. Upon maturity several notices were sent to him, even during the war which began in 2003. Again, after the war another notification was sent, but still no response came from him. We later found out that my client, his wife and two sons had been killed during the war, in a bomb blast.

http://www.iraqbodycount.net/names.htm

After further investigation, it was also discovered that Aajel Jiber did not declare any next of kin in his official papers, including the paperwork of his bank deposit. He also confided, in me the last time he was at my office, that no one except me knew of his deposit in my bank. So Twenty Four million Five Hundred Thousand United State Dollars is still lying in my bank and no one will ever come forward to claim it. What bothers me most is that according to the laws of my country, at the expiration of 3 years and 6 months the funds will revert to the ownership of the Hong Kong Government, if nobody applies to claim it. Against this backdrop, I will like you, as a foreigner, to stand as next of kin to Aajel Jiber,so that we can receive his funds.

WHAT IS TO BE DONE:
I want you to know that I have had everything planned out so that we shall come out successful. I have contacted an attorney who will prepare the necessary document that will back you up as the next of kin to Aajel Jiber. There is no risk involved at all in this business, as we are going TO adopt a legalized method. All that is required from you, at this stage is for you to provide me with your Full Names and Address, so that the attorney can commence his job. After you have been made the next of kin, the attorney will also file for claims on your behalf and secure the necessary approval and letter of probate in your favour for the move of the funds to an account that will be provided by you. Please endeavor to observe utmost discretion in all matters concerning this issue. Should you be interested please send me your full names, private phone/fax and current residential address, after which I shall provide you with more details on this
operation. You can reach me with the email below.

raymondwlee01@yahoo.com.hk

Your earliest response to this letter will be appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Mr Lee Raymond Wing Hung.

First of all, why would someone with $24,500,000 American dollars want to go to Iraq at risky times before a war was about to start?

Secondly a trend I discovered is taking advantage of dead people and using real people’s names.

Thirdly the Email’s originating IP address 207.68.239.252 does not come from China but from Vista III Media in Atlanta in the US and is even recognized as an open proxy on wikipedia.

If this was to ever happen shouldn't the money be going to charity?

Blech on spam mail. What's sad now is that they've moved from African money launders into current events.

It's probably just a zombie machine that got hijacked from somewhere else and is being used to send the spam out.

They also like to boast about email addresses used in lotteries as well, except I am never going to be their lottery.

Excellent idea, I'll email them from another account using dialup, then I can ask as much questions as I want which might result in irritation even though I am meaning to be curious. It will show how far they are willing to go.

I have to be very careful to what I say to people these days as it seems. They might even send someone over to murder or kidnap me if they are frustrated enough for not taking them seriously for using real identities.

(1) What is an Irish Lottery doing in England and not Ireland?

(2) As you see the form is a joke when they already state how much they claim to be paying as in the paragraph above, asking for details already there, spelling and punctuation mistakes, income (none of their business) and country?

(3) Obviously my email address ends with a dot com you fools!

An idiot looking for another idiot.
I signed off of a client to see if I could get the address and I forgot to copy down the beginning bit.
I don't know how but this idiot found a new name I setup with no one on there on my contact list.
(My screen name shortened and altered.)

How on earth are they moving into IM clients? That's just a crazy new way of the spamming. Also: horrifying.

Ah, but how to fuck with them, therein lies the big question...

There lies the big question of, like what has happened with Yahoo giving off "secret" information about its users to China to imprison talkers maybe Russia has bribed them in some way too. Judging by the .ru domain and the shortened letter "u", I'd say from my nametease thread:

Russia
