Ok I just saw all 20 episodes of the Clone Wars on Cartoon Network.

It kicked ass.

All I have to say is that someone should force Lucas to let Genndy Tartakovsky direct episode 7-9 if not re do 1-3

(The clone wars were written by Lucas according to IMDB, but I think he had lots of help.)

Episode 19 was just UN.FUCKING.BELIEVEABLE. That's all I'm gonna say about that.

I think Grevious is excellent. Alot of people are complaining that he fights like a cyber-monkey, but I was blown away by his fighting styles. It's really depressing when you're enjoying something so much, then you get online and all you read all these people just dismantling what you thought was great. Its like, man, do people watch stuff just to have fun anymore? Does everything have to be overanalyzed nowadays? Jeez.

Well, at the risk of overanalyzing, let me just say I thought the production values were great, but the voices were pretty lame. It was ok though, since there was almost no dialogue in the entire thing lol. But yeah, they were pretty fun, the Anakin-Ventress one was pretty cool, and Greivous doesn't look bad. I still hate his name though. Dear god do I hate his name.

I have seen previews of this cartoon. To be honest after seeing it, I was filled with a revulsion :yuck: . I have really no desire to see even ONE Episode. And I love cartoons!! I don't think I am missing much by not seeing it. I will take your guys word on merrit that it is good. Besides I have swore of watching anything Star Wars that was done after Episode I came out.

By the way am I the only one that thinks that ever since 1992 most cartoons have gotten incredibly lame. I mean aside from South Park, Simpsons and Futurama, Dragonball Z and ANIME in general, aren't there a load of really awful cartoons being foisted upon our youth, recently?

Especially animation. It seems everyone wants to animate in the "Batman' style. I hate that style!! What ever happened to drawing people the way people looked, Like in the Superfriends or in Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. People were drawn the way people look. Compare the new Justice League to the old Superfriends cartoon. Is that expensive to draw in that style anymore? The 90s X-men cartoon used it.? Abstract styles like "Batman" should be used for humor cartoons in my opinion. What do you guys think?

Point by point comments:
The weird thing with the clone wars stuff is that each episode is only 2 to 3 mins long. The whole thing is less than 2 hours for all 20 episodes. I like The samuri jack style of animation (note the lack of outlines around the subjects.. )

I think the main problem with cartoons now a days is that most of them are made oversees. With the exception of Cartoon Netowork, there isn't very much being produced in the US. I like the CN stuff, but it seems to be stuck in one of three areas: Dexter Lab (Cartoon Cartoon shows), Justice Legue (batman action stuff) and Adult Swim/William St. stuff (Harvey Birdman/Sealab 2021/Spaceghost coast to coast. With only a few crossovers (Samuri Jack is between cartoon cartoon and action.

As for the old style stuff.. well I don't really like it. Back then they actually produced stuff very poorly due to low cost. And since the drop off of cartoon viewing (note most major networks don't do cartoons sat. morning anymore). So people tend to asocciate that style with what in reality is kind of crappy animation. Now I will say I like some of that stuff.. Although I was never a fan of the old justice legue or scooby doo.

Everything else being shown over here is from japan basically. Which is sad statement with respect to the current state of american animation.

{EDIT here}: Personally I liked the batman style when it first came out. It went well with the dark/edgy feel of the original batman comics, and not the campy tv series. Although it is kind of overdone now. As an animator I'd like to seem more styles come out.. One style that I have a love/hate relationship with is 3D computer stuff.. most of it looks cheesy. I wish they would drop the photo-realistic stuff and start to take advantage of using 3d to produce non-photorealistic stuff. Although I like Jimmy Neutron's style smile.gif

I loved the Batman cartoons of the 90s, I really thought they were great. They captured the mood great, and who knew that Mark Hamill was such a cool Joker? I can't say I've really seen a decline. South Park, Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, Animaniacs (that was also great when it came out), all these really clever cartoons, some for kids, some for adults. I don't really watch superhero cartoons anymore so I couldn't tell you if the Batman style is overused, but many of the cartoons out now I think are pretty good, though Simpsons is going downhill.

OOh.. I almost forgot about Disney and Nick Toons.

Disney is Disney.. they've tried to update their stuff.. but haven't had much sucess lately. (Darkwing Duck was ok.. Goof Troop is just a bit too much for me though.)

Nick.. well Nick is aimed at the younger crowdes. Although they are the ones who came up with Spongebob Squarepants.. which is a little out there. (I haven't watched too much), and they pay for Jimmy Neutron. But most of there stuff needs work I think.

Hrm. maybe I'm coming off as an animation snob here.. or just showing that I watch too many cartoons. Soo.. I'll stop now.
